Chapter 114 Apology
Selena stood at the door, her face stern and her breath heavy.
She had just climbed the stairs to the eighth floor because the elevator was out of order. Wearing high heels, each step was a struggle, and her heels were blistered.
She didn't want to be here, but Jones had given her a strict ultimatum. Either bring Maggie back, or she quit directly.
Seeing how David and George from Quixote's family treated Maggie with such respect only added to Selena’s inner turmoil. After thinking for a long time, Selena had reluctantly swallowed her pride and called Maggie. However, Maggie had already blocked her number.
She was unable to reach Maggie, and her Whatsapp account had also been blocked by Maggie.
So Selena asked Emily to call Maggie, but Emily said, "Whoever drove Maggie away, should be the one to invite her back."
With the Roberts family backing Emily, Selena didn't dare to offend her, even though she was very angry. Finally, she went to the HR department to find Maggie's home address and came here personally.
Selena stood at the door as if she was going to devour Maggie. Confused, Maggie said, "Selena?"
Selena took a deep breath, calmed her emotions, and said, "Pack your things quickly, and come back to work with me."
"Work?" Maggie asked in surprise, "But wasn’t I fired? What job am I going back to?"
Suddenly, Maggie thought of Fiorello's words. She thought, 'He said someone from the company would come to invite me back to work, but I didn't expect it to be the arrogant chief jewelry designer Selena, who always looked down on me. Fiorello's words really came true.'
Maggie was genuinely bewildered, but Selena thought Maggie was deliberately making things difficult for her.
Selena’s expression darkened. "Maggie, I have come to invite you back personally. What more do you want?"
Selena glanced into the house and found that the furnishings were simple but warm. She thought, ‘It was a modest apartment in a middle-of-the-road neighborhood, far from the luxurious residences of someone important.'
Selena was very puzzled, 'Maggie didn’t seem to have any notable background or status, so why could she make David and George from Quixote's family apologize to her and make Jones issue a strict order to invite her back?'
Maggie frowned and wondered about Selena’s attitude. Was she someone who could be summoned and dismissed at will?
"Selena, I'm not indispensable for the position of design assistant. You're free to leave."
Her patience wearing thin. Despite not understanding why Selena had come to ask her back, Maggie found her attitude inappropriate for someone extending an invitation.
"You..." Selena was angry, but she managed to control her anger.
"Maggie, your resignation letter hasn't been signed by the higher-ups, so it hasn't taken effect. You are still an employee of the company. I hope you can come back to work with me. It was my mistake to send you to the Sercial Guild Hall. I apologize for what I said earlier."
Her current attitude was much improved from before.
Maggie was dumbfounded and thought, 'Was the sun rising from the west today? Yesterday, David and George from Quixote's family came to apologize to me. Today, Selena showed up. What stroke of luck am I having? I'm just a nobody. How could I make these people apologize to me?'
Maggie asked uncertainly, "Did I hear you correctly? Are you apologizing to me?"
She thought, 'Was the world turning surreal? Why do I feel like no matter what happens, I can solve it perfectly?'
Selena gritted her teeth and said, "I apologize for my rash behavior before. I hope you can come back to work."
With the conversation at this point, Maggie didn't know what else to say.
Maggie was soft-hearted and preferred gentle persuasion rather than force. When others were tough, she could be tough too. But if someone was gentle, she found it hard to remain firm.
Maggie pondered and said, "Are you asking me to come back just to continue making things difficult for me?"
Selena continued to grit her teeth and said, "How would I dare? You have Mr. Liang backing you up. I wouldn't dare to make things difficult for you."
When she mentioned Jones Bary, Maggie understood what was going on.
She thought, 'Fiorello just mentioned that he has a good relationship with Jones. It seems Fiorello has already talked to Jones privately. I didn't tell him about being fired before. But I didn't expect Fiorello to arrange everything for me so thoughtfully.'
"In that case, I'll go change my clothes."
Maggie didn't say much more because Fiorello had paved the way for her to this extent, so she was sure she had to go to work.
