Chapter 589 Missing for Three Days
The sight of the bright red blood jolted Maggie's nerves.
She felt paralyzed, unable to move, look, or even think about opening the box.
Fiorello was also tense, and Erin let out a piercing scream.
Arya came out of the room, asking, "Any news about Adalia? What's this?"
Seeing the box, Arya was puzzled.
Fiorello continued cutting it open with scissors. The moment the box was opened and its contents revealed, Maggie turned pale and almost lost her balance.
Inside the box was a pig's trotter, a bloody pig's trotter wrapped in black tape. At first glance, it could easily be mistaken for a limb.
Arya screamed in horror, "Who would play such a prank? It's terrifying."
Fiorello's brow furrowed deeply as he shouted outside, "Brian, find out where this box came from."
Maggie grabbed Fiorello's arm, her voice trembling, "Could it be from the kidnappers who took Adalia? Are they warning us? Do they want money?"
If it were a kidnapping, Fiorello would actually feel a bit relieved. At most, the kidnappers would want money. The current uncertainty made it hard to take any action.
Fiorello hugged Maggie, comforting her gently, "Don't worry. If it really is from the kidnappers, no matter how much money they want, I'll bring Adalia back safely."
Arya anxiously asked, "Who would take a child?"
The police were investigating, and they hadn't completely ruled out Jenny as a suspect.
Jenny had disappeared without a trace, leaving no clues. The police also felt that this case had little to do with Jenny.
Jenny was already a fugitive, hiding from the law. Kidnapping a child for revenge didn't seem wise.
Fiorello had someone trace the origin of the package. It was left at the door by a man.
Fiorello found the man, who, under questioning, revealed that a person, fully covered, had given him the box and asked him to place it at Maggie's door in Sunset Hills.
The man couldn't clearly describe the person, as he hadn't seen their face. He was just paid to do the job.
The trail went cold once again.
Night had fallen.
Maggie couldn't sleep. Her mind was consumed with thoughts of where Adalia might be and who might have taken her.
The police were searching, and Fiorello had people looking as well. They had to find Adalia, but there was no progress.
Days passed, and Maggie's spirit was completely shattered. Every little sound made her think Adalia had returned.
Maggie didn't give up. As long as she didn't see a body, she believed Adalia was still alive.
Fiorello offered a one-million-dollar reward for any information leading to Adalia, leaving no stone unturned.
Maggie faced disappointment time and again as the leads provided by people turned out to be false.
Seeing the situation escalate, Olivia became scared.
She asked Isabella several times where Adalia was, but Isabella wouldn't say.
Olivia was torn between fearing Adalia would be found and hoping the police would see her soon.
To gather information, Olivia took the risk of going to Sunset Hills.
Arya, feeling irritable, had no mood to entertain Olivia: "Olivia, if you have something to say, just say it. We're all worried about Adalia."
"Still no news?" Olivia asked, feigning ignorance. "The police haven't found any clues either?"
"No," Arya replied, puzzled. "It's strange. How can someone disappear like that? It's been three days. If we don't find Adalia soon, we'll all go crazy."
Olivia tried to comfort her, "Don't worry. Kids sometimes wander off and get lost. By the way, where's Maggie?"
"She's out looking for Adalia. Every day at dawn, she goes out," Arya said worriedly. "Maggie has already lost one child. If something happens to Adalia, it will destroy her."
Olivia said, "What's meant to be will be, and what's not meant to be can't be forced."
"Olivia, what do you mean?" Arya was displeased. "Are you saying Maggie shouldn't have her child? How can you say that?"
