Chapter 594 Interrogation
Hearing the news about her mother, a flicker of reaction appeared in Adalia's vacant eyes.
Having been locked up here for so long and suffering Isabella's abuse, Adalia had lost her original light and was now filled with gloom.
Adalia opened her mouth, making a broken sound, but couldn't speak.
Her throat had been poisoned mute.
"You want to see your mom?" Isabella sneered. Looking at Adalia's face, which closely resembled Maggie's, she felt hatred. Fortunately, Adalia's eyebrows and eyes were like Fiorello's, which made her a bit happier.
Isabella looked at Adalia and said, "You'll never see your mom again in this life. Your mom made me live in darkness, so you'll accompany me. You will repay what Maggie owes me."
Adalia shook her head, pulling hard on the chains. One of her hands was locked to the bedpost, limiting her movement to just a few square feet of the bed.
Adalia knelt to beg Isabella, hoping she would release her.
Isabella watched coldly, "Adalia, I won't let you go. You should be grateful you're Fiorello's daughter; otherwise, you wouldn't even have the chance to be alive."
Adalia stopped her kowtowing, sitting on her knees on the bed, her eyes fixed on Isabella.
Isabella smiled, leaned back against the wall, and looked at the ceiling. This room had no windows and was in the basement, relying entirely on artificial light.
Isabella sat for a while, then got up, glanced at Adalia, and said, "There's food if you're hungry. I won't be coming over for the next few days."
Isabella didn't come here every day; sometimes she only came once a week.
The room was filled with snacks and water, which had sustained Adalia for the past three months.
Isabella kept Adalia like a pet cat or dog.
The room door was locked again, and the lights went out, plunging the room into darkness.
Adalia was afraid of the dark. She crawled into the bed, wrapping herself tightly in the blanket. She had thought about escaping, but she really couldn't.
Adalia hid under the blanket, calling out in her heart: Mom.
She missed her mom very much. Seeing her mom was the motivation that kept her alive.
Blood ties and telepathy, back in Sunset Hills, Maggie suddenly felt a sharp pain in her chest.
"Adalia."
Maggie said her daughter's name.
"Maggie, you've been too tired lately. You should rest for a while." Arya poured Maggie a glass of water and said, "Finding the child isn't a one-day task."
Maggie clutched her chest, waiting for the pain to subside. Then, she took a sip of water and said slowly, "Mom, has Olivia come to see you recently?"
"The last time she came, she said some nasty things, and I haven't contacted her since." Arya said coldly, "Olivia's words were harsh, spreading rumors among relatives, saying you married into a wealthy family and looked down on her, saying I kicked her out. It made me so angry."
After being kicked out last time, Olivia slandered Arya and Maggie in front of relatives, saying Arya had forgotten their sisterly bond now that she had money through her daughter.
Maggie sneered, "People are like that, afraid of your poverty and also afraid of you being richer than them."
Arya said, "We might as well not associate with them in the future. We haven't been in touch with those relatives for years anyway. I used to care about family ties, but now I see through it. Besides our own family, who truly wishes us well? Just live our own lives."
"Today I saw Isabella." Maggie said, "Mom, I'm thinking, could Adalia's disappearance be related to Isabella? Find a chance to test Olivia. Olivia is just jealous of our family now. Let her talk, go along with her, and see if you can find any clues."
"Isabella kidnapped Adalia?" Arya was shocked, "Could Isabella do such a thing? No way, I'll go to Olivia's house right now and ask her."
"Mom, I didn't say to ask, I said to test. Probe Olivia's words to avoid alerting them." Maggie instructed, "I'm just suspicious now. If I go to Olivia's house, it will definitely alert them. Mom, you go and test her, don't let anything slip."
Arya nodded solemnly, "I understand. I'll go now. I'll buy some things, visit Olivia, apologize to her, and give her face. I know Olivia's character well. I'll go along with her, and I can ask anything."
