Chapter 753 Settling Debts with Money
Imogen's words brought shame to the entire Holmes family.
Francis was shocked; it was the first time he had seen his mother deal with someone like this.
Every word made people uncomfortable, but there was nothing they could say.
Imogen mocked and laughed, and the Holmes family could only endure it.
Elara found an excuse to leave, "There's still soup in the kitchen. I'll go get it. You all start eating."
"Mom, I'll help you," Wendy, also a bit afraid of Imogen, followed her into the kitchen.
In the kitchen, neither of them needed to pretend.
Elara angrily said, "Look at what Imogen is saying. Isn't she just saying that she has a son, and I don't? That our whole family relies on her son?"
Despite her anger, Elara only dared to vent in a low voice.
The more Elara spoke, the angrier she got, "With someone like Imogen, Wendy, you won't be a match for her even if you marry into their family."
Wendy also resented Imogen for introducing her to a divorced man. With a venomous look, she said, "She doesn't want me to marry in? Well, I will marry into the Jackson family and see who the real winner is."
Wendy's competitive spirit was ignited.
Elara took out a packet of powder and said, "This is something your dad and I got. Pour it into the soup and serve it."
Wendy was curious, "Mom, what is this?"
Elara sneered, "Sleeping pills."
"Mom, what are you planning?" Wendy asked, alarmed. "Even if we drug Francis, it won't work with Imogen here."
"Then let them all drink it. When Francis passes out, we'll put him in your bed. Let's see how Imogen explains that," Elara decided, pouring the sleeping pills into the soup and carrying it out.
At the dining table, Imogen continued to mock, making Neil blush with embarrassment.
"The soup is here," Elara said with a smile. "This meatball soup is very fresh. Francis, Imogen, let me serve you a bowl. You must try Wendy's cooking."
"Thank you," Francis said.
Imogen didn't think much of it, assuming it was just a bowl of soup, not suspecting it was drugged.
Elara served a bowl each to Francis and Imogen. Brianna, enticed by the aroma, handed over her bowl and said, "Grandma, I want some too."
Wendy quickly grabbed the bowl, nervously saying, "There's not much soup left. I'll get you some from the kitchen. You all go ahead and eat."
With that, Wendy went into the kitchen.
Due to his profession, Francis sensed something was off with Wendy and grew suspicious.
Imogen didn't think much of it, drank a few sips of soup, and continued chatting with Neil and Elara, her words still full of mockery.
Elara smiled and said, "Francis, drink this meatball soup. It's very fresh."
"Okay," Francis said, drinking from his bowl. He then said, "Uncle Neil, Aunt Elara, my mom is just straightforward. Don't take it to heart; she means no harm."
Neil and Elara awkwardly agreed, "It's fine, it's fine. We're all family."
Wendy then came out with soup, handed it to Brianna, and silently sat down to eat.
Francis continued, "There's something else I want to clarify with everyone here, especially for Wendy."
Francis looked serious, and everyone put down their forks, wanting to hear what he had to say.
Francis looked at Wendy and said, "Wendy, I'm sorry, but I can't marry you. I'm willing to compensate you, but the only way I can do that is with money."
Francis took out a bank card and pushed it in front of Wendy. "There's $50,000 in here. The password is the last six digits of the card number. In front of Uncle and Aunt, I want to end this matter. Wendy, if you're willing, take this card."
Hearing the amount, Wendy was a bit tempted, but she remembered that her online loans had already exceeded that amount. With interest, she owed over $70,000.
Wendy immediately acted very angry, as if she had been humiliated, "Francis, what do you mean by this? What do you take me for?"
Elara was also furious, "Francis, isn't this an insult? You slept with Wendy, and now you're trying to pay her off? What do you take our Wendy for?"
Neil slammed the table in anger, "Francis, take your money back. According to our family's rules, if you slept with her, you have to marry her. As a man, don't you have any sense of responsibility?"
