Chapter 698 The Ruthless Melissa

Maggie had always known that Melissa wasn't as innocent as she appeared, but this was the first time she had heard Melissa speak in such a decisive and commanding tone.

This was the real Melissa; deep down, she was unwilling to be ordinary.

Maggie stayed in her cubicle and didn't go out, and she overheard quite a bit about Melissa's media company.

As Fiorello had said, the media industry had made the Jackson Group a lot of money.

No, to be precise, it was Melissa who had made a lot of money.

Maggie learned from Melissa's phone conversations that Melissa had already transferred a significant amount of assets. The official owner of the media company was Timothy, but the money ultimately ended up in Melissa's account.

If anything went wrong with the live-streaming sales, Timothy, as the legal owner, would be the first to be held accountable, while Melissa, who took the money, would bear no responsibility.

This move was really clever.

Someone who had been in the hospital for years hadn't had their willpower worn down by illness; instead, they were so resilient, methodical, and strategic. Maggie had to admire that.

As for Timothy, even though Maggie hadn't interacted with him much, she could roughly understand that Timothy valued family ties and wasn't as smart as Melissa; otherwise, he wouldn't have been used by her.

Of course, maybe Timothy was willing to be used by Melissa.

After finishing her call, Melissa left, and Maggie came out of her cubicle, washed her hands, and walked out to find that Melissa was no longer in the banquet hall.

"Maggie, I have to go," Dulce said as she walked over. "My mom twisted her ankle, and I need to go check on her."

Maggie nodded. "Okay, is she seriously hurt?"

"Probably not too serious. She just called and said she twisted it," Dulce replied. "I'll head out now."

"Alright," Maggie smiled and saw Dulce to the door.

After Francis left, Dulce hadn't been in the mood, and Maggie could see that, so she didn't try to keep her.

After Dulce left, Maggie went to find Mark; she had something to discuss with him.

Mark was also catching up with some old friends here. In the business world, connections are intricate, and sometimes just mentioning a name can establish a connection, even if they haven't met before.

His son and daughter had taken over Mark's company, and he was quite upset about it. He hadn't had the chance to attend any business events, but today, at the newborn party, he felt like he was back in his old role as the president of the Jackson Group.

When Maggie found him, Mark was having a lively conversation with oil tycoon Lester Patterson.

Seeing Maggie, Mark smiled and called out, "Maggie, this is Lester. We were born in the same year; what a coincidence."

With Mark's previous status in the business world, he wouldn't have had the chance to interact with someone like Lester.

This time, Mark had Fiorello to thank.

Maggie smiled and greeted Lester, "Mr. Patterson, thank you for coming all this way. Fiorello was talking about you earlier. You've helped him a lot in the past."

This was half-true. Lester had indeed helped Fiorello, but Fiorello hadn't mentioned it to Maggie earlier.

While doing postpartum recovery, Maggie had learned about the company's operations and some business partners. Fiorello had talked to her about Lester, and she remembered it.

Hearing this, Lester naturally felt pleased.

Lester laughed and said, "Fiorello is a great guy with a good eye for opportunities and a good eye for picking a wife. It's commendable."

Maggie chatted with him for a bit before pulling Mark aside to a quiet place and asked, "Dad, when are you going back?"

"I've only been here for two days; I plan to stay a few more," Mark joked. "What, you're kicking me out already? I know what you mean. Tonight, I'll take Melissa to a hotel and not come back home."

Mark was a businessman; how could he not be shrewd? He could tell that Maggie didn't like Melissa.

In fact, he was a bit worried himself. Melissa was ruthless and not as simple as she appeared. She was so ruthless that she would dare to poison her father.
