Chapter 303 Willingly Entering the Game
Maggie spoke to Mark in a cold tone as if he were a stranger.
Soon, Mark sent the address of a hotel.
Holden said, "Maggie, didn't you say your mom was sick? Why isn't she in the hospital but in a hotel?"
"She might be faking it." Maggie had guessed as much, which was why she wasn't worried and could chat and laugh with Holden on the way.
"Your mom and dad are tricking you?" Holden looked sympathetic.
Maggie sighed helplessly, "Any woman, at any age, once ensnared by a man, loses all sense. Mark has always wanted me to come to London, so I'll play along and see his true colors."
"Maggie, is he really your dad?" Holden felt the resentment was a bit much.
Maggie looked out the car window at the unfamiliar London and said, "I've never seen my dad since I was born. Other people's dads might live on gravestones, but my family doesn't even have a photo of him. I have no feelings for him."
Holden felt speechless
That was quite a statement.
The taxi arrived at the hotel entrance, and Maggie looked up at the sign, Mirage Haven Hotel.
"Holden, do me a favor. Find out where the Jackson family lives, how far it is from here, which hospital Melissa is in, and her condition. After that, book a room at the Mirage Haven Hotel and text me to meet up. Is that doable?" Maggie asked.
Holden patted his chest and assured, "Maggie, leave it to me. I'll meet you here in an hour."
Maggie said, "Thanks."
Involving Holden in her family matters made Maggie feel a bit guilty.
But she needed a helper to understand Mark's true intentions.
Holden smiled. "Maggie, we're family. No need to be so polite."
With that, Holden hailed a taxi to investigate.
Watching Holden's taxi leave, Maggie felt a warmth in her heart. The Flores family, though wealthy, lacked the arrogance of the rich and had no internal strife. The family was harmonious.
Perhaps this was why they could raise someone as thoughtful, gentle, and responsible as Fiorello.
Maggie took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself to deal with the likes of Mark and Ashley.
From the start, Maggie never believed Mark could truly repent. His urgency in tricking her to come was likely for her bone marrow.
Maggie entered the hotel and, following the room number Mark had given, arrived at room 808 on the eighth floor.
Maggie rang the doorbell, and soon Mark opened the door. Upon seeing Maggie, he immediately expressing guilt. "Maggie, it's all my fault for not taking good care of your mom."
"How is my mom?" Maggie feigned concern, carrying her luggage inside.
Arya, looking somewhat unwell, was leaning against the bed. Seeing Maggie, she felt a bit guilty.
"Maggie, you're here," Arya said, coughing a few times.
Maggie asked with concern, "Mom, where are you feeling unwell? Have you seen a doctor?"
"Yes, I just got back from the hospital," Arya said, "The doctor said it's just an adjustment to the climate here. A couple of days' rest should do."
"You've been in London for so long and still can't adjust to the climate?" Maggie said, glancing at Mark.
Mark quickly said, "Maybe the temperature dropped last night, and your mom caught a chill. Maggie, spend more time with your mom. Tonight, I'll treat you to dinner at Luxe Culinary Haven. It's a chance for the family to sit down and have a meal together."
Maggie asked sharply, "Who exactly does Mr. Jackson mean by 'family'?"
Mark's expression froze momentarily, and then he smiled. "Of course, our family. Your sister Melissa, your brother Timothy Jackson, and your Aunt Ashley. We'll all have dinner together."
As he spoke, Mark watched Maggie's face, fearing she would refuse.
Mark quickly organized his thoughts, thinking of how to persuade Maggie, only to hear her readily agree. "Alright, Mr. Jackson, thank you for the trouble."
