Chapter 673 Perilous Situations
Maggie felt like she was dreaming. After the anesthesia was administered, she couldn't feel any pain.
She didn't even know how dangerous her situation was.
During the delivery, she went into shock twice. After the baby was delivered, the bleeding wouldn't stop, and she almost had all her blood replaced.
Maggie encountered the most fatal amniotic fluid embolism. Out of ten mothers who experience it, about half are not saved.
The few people anxiously waiting outside the operating room were terrified as they listened to the doctor's report.
Fiorello's face was pale. If you got close to him, you would notice his legs were trembling.
Filled with fear, Fiorello couldn't bear to hear any bad news, and his entire body was tense.
After the two babies were brought out of the operating room, they were quickly sent to the neonatal unit for examination.
The adults didn't even have time to take a look, and Fiorello had no mind to care about the children. His head was full of thoughts about Maggie's safety.
Throughout Maggie's entire pregnancy, Fiorello had been dreading this day. During the pregnancy, Maggie wasn't anxious, but Fiorello was.
What he feared still happened.
Arya, with a voice choked with tears and red eyes, said, "Maggie will be fine. She's been through so much hardship. Why does she have to suffer again? God, please protect my daughter."
Eleanor also prayed to the air, silently mouthing blessings.
Maggie's difficult labor reminded Arya of when Maggie gave birth to Adalia a few years ago. Although the situation wasn't as severe, she was still scared back then.
Dulce wanted to do something for Maggie but could do nothing except wait.
At this moment, Dylan came out, and everyone gathered around. Fiorello asked, "How is Maggie?"
Dylan, with a serious expression, briefly explained Maggie's condition and then said, "There's only one option left. If it doesn't work, we'll have to remove the uterus. Maggie not only has an amniotic fluid embolism but also a uterine rupture. If the bleeding doesn't stop, not even God can save her. And even with the removal of the uterus, we can't guarantee Maggie will be out of danger."
"Do it," Fiorello said without hesitation. "Dylan, do everything you can to save Maggie. No matter what it takes, you must save her."
At this point, Fiorello couldn't afford to hesitate. A decision had to be made quickly. Any chance, no matter how slim, had to be tried.
"I understand," Dylan said, turning back to the operating room.
A doctor from the neonatal unit came over and said, "Mr. Flores, the physical examinations of the two babies are complete. Both are fine. The older one is a boy, and the younger one is a girl. Both are within the healthy weight range. Do you want to go see them?"
Fiorello had no interest in seeing the babies. He just nodded at the doctor's words.
Eleanor said, "I'll go see the babies. Doctor, where are they?"
Someone had to go see the babies. At this moment, Fiorello and Arya were unwilling to leave, so Eleanor went.
The surgery lasted from 10 PM to 8 AM the next day. During this time, Fiorello's face looked terrible.
He stood silently, waiting, with an unapproachable demeanor.
At 8 AM, the doctors who had operated on Maggie all night were exhausted, some even collapsing from fatigue.
After being highly focused on saving a life, once the tension eased, they were spent.
After a night of danger, Fiorello looked at Dylan, nervous and fearful, but didn't dare to ask about Maggie's condition.
Dylan understood Fiorello's concern and said, "The uterus was removed, the bleeding has stopped, and she's temporarily stable. We must monitor her closely. As long as there's no more bleeding, she'll be fine."
The most feared complication for doctors was postpartum hemorrhage, which was very tricky to handle.
Some mothers seem fine but can suddenly hemorrhage postpartum and not make it.
This time, Maggie's life was saved, thanks to Dylan.
Fiorello breathed a sigh of relief, his tense nerves relaxing a bit. After being on edge for so long, hearing this news made him stagger and he had to steady himself against the wall.
Fiorello requested, "I want to see Maggie."
"You need to wait a bit longer. Change into the appropriate attire, and another doctor will take you to the ICU. You can't stay too long," Dylan replied.
