Chapter 247 Allergies

Fiorello responded immediately after sending the message.

Fiorello: [I'll be home for dinner.]

These were just a few simple words, but they filled Maggie's heart with joy.

Women were easy to satisfy; they just wanted a response to everything.

Thinking about Fiorello coming home for dinner, Maggie started preparing roasted beef.

Maggie was busy in the kitchen while Adalia and Arya played in their room, their laughter occasionally drifting out, filling the house with a warm atmosphere.

Maggie decided to make a couple of side dishes. Just as she finished chopping the vegetables, Ann called.

Maggie answered the call and put the phone on speaker.

"Ann, what's up?" Maggie asked.

"Maggie, the method you taught me last time really worked. Now my mother-in-law doesn't dare act out in public anymore."

Her tone reflected Ann's positive mood. " I bought her expensive clothes, and I even washed her feet. The next day, the housekeeper went around the neighborhood, bragging about it. Now, everyone praises me as the model daughter-in-law, and my mother-in-law is upset. It makes me so happy."

Seeing Ann in such a good mood, Maggie smiled and said, "That's just a temporary solution, Ann. You can't let the conflict between you and your mother-in-law get too deep."

"I understand," Ann said, "I'm going back to work tomorrow."

Maggie was surprised. "So soon?"

"The company promoted me. I have to seize the opportunity," Ann joked over the phone. "I'm telling you, I'm in such a good mood right now. I've been waiting for this promotion for years. My career and my son are my backbone. I feel so confident now."

Maggie was genuinely happy for Ann. "Congratulations, Ann. You're successful both at work and at home."

"I think it's all thanks to your good luck," Ann said, "Ever since you joined the company, a lot of good things have happened. My son was born. You came to see me. My mother-in-law has settled down, and I even got promoted. You're my lucky charm."
Maggie laughed. "I didn't do anything."

"Anyway, you're important to me, Maggie. When are you planning to come back to work?"

"I might need to wait a bit longer," Maggie said, "My mom injured her leg, and I need to take care of the kids and the elderly at home."

"Kids?" Ann was puzzled.

"It's a long story. I'll tell you when I get the chance."

"Alright, I'll wait for you at the company. I'm throwing a party this Friday night. You have to come. I'll send you the address."

"Sure, I'll be there."

After hanging up, Maggie checked on the beef, which was almost done.
Fiorello arrived home at seven in the evening. Hearing the door open, Adalia ran to greet him excitedly. "Daddy, Mommy bought me lots of pretty dresses and toys today."

As soon as he walked in, the smell of food from the kitchen and the sound of his daughter's voice filled Fiorello with a sense of happiness.

The simplest and most heartwarming days were just like this.

Fiorello smiled, put down his car keys, changed his shoes at the entrance, and affectionately ruffled Adalia's hair. "Did you have a good day?"

"Yes." Adalia's eyes curled into crescent moons as she smiled, looking particularly adorable.

Adalia's smile made Fiorello momentarily lost in thought. Her smile was so much like Maggie's.

Both of them had beautiful dimples when they smiled.

Maggie came out of the kitchen with a pot of soup, smiling. "You're back. Go wash your hands for dinner."

She then called out to Arya, "Mom, dinner's ready."

Arya, who was on the phone in the guest room, quickly ended her call and came out.

Fiorello took Adalia to wash their hands. When he saw Maggie bring out the beef, he asked Adalia to sit down and help in the kitchen.

After seeing him serve the bread, Maggie went to prepare two plates of barbecue sauce. One had onions, which Maggie and Arya both liked, but the other didn't, because Fiorello was allergic to onions.

"Dinner's ready."

The family of four sat down, with Adalia insisting on sitting next to Fiorello.

Maggie picked the best pieces of roasted beef for Adalia and Arya while she took some vegetables for herself.

Just as she took a bite, a piece of beef appeared in her bowl, placed there by Fiorello.

"You should eat more to keep up your strength," Fiorello said,

Maggie's heart warmed.

Seeing Maggie and Fiorello so affectionate, Arya was also pleased.

"Mommy, I want some sauce too," Adalia said, eyeing the barbecue sauce with onions.

"Alright," Maggie said, dipping a piece of beef into the onion barbecue sauce. "It's a bit spicy."

The sauce Maggie made with spices and onions had a bit of a kick.

Adalia happily took a bite.

Seeing Adalia enjoy it, Maggie gave her a few more pieces of beef.

Arya said, "Don't just focus on the child; you should eat too."

"Okay," Maggie said, taking a piece of beef for herself and glancing at Fiorello.

The family enjoyed a happy meal together.

After dinner, Fiorello got up to clear the dishes. Arya, with her limited mobility, sat on the couch watching TV while Maggie took Adalia to wash up for bed.

Maggie had just filled the bathtub when she noticed Adalia scratching her skin. "Adalia, what's wrong?"

Adalia kept scratching her arms and neck. "Mommy, I'm so itchy."

Maggie then noticed red spots covering Adalia's neck and arms. Lifting her shirt, she found red rashes all over her body.

Maggie was alarmed and quickly called out, "Fiorello, come here quickly!"

Fiorello heard the urgency in her voice and ran from the kitchen. "Maggie, what's wrong?"

"Adalia is covered in red rashes. It looks like an allergic reaction," Maggie said anxiously, "We need to get her to the hospital."

Before she could finish, Adalia started vomiting and had trouble breathing.

Maggie was terrified, and Fiorello's expression changed drastically. He quickly picked up Adalia. "Grab the car keys. We're going to the hospital."

Fiorello carried Adalia out the door. Arya heard the commotion and came over. "What's going on?"

"Adalia is having an allergic reaction. We're taking her to the hospital. Mom, stay here," Maggie said urgently.

Arya quickly agreed. "Alright, you go. Call me if you need anything."

With her limited mobility, Arya didn't want to be a burden.

Fiorello and Maggie rushed Adalia to the hospital. Maggie's heart was in her throat the entire way, filled with anxiety.

Adalia kept vomiting and struggling to breathe, the red spots on her body multiplying. Her voice was filled with pain. "Mommy, Daddy, I feel so awful. Am I going to die?"

"No, you won't. Don't be scared. Mommy and Daddy are here with you. We're almost at the hospital," Maggie said, her heart aching.

Fiorello, his expression grim, drove while calling the hospital to arrange for a doctor.

When they arrived at the hospital, a doctor was already waiting to take Adalia into the emergency room.

Fiorello and Maggie anxiously waited outside the emergency room. Fiorello held Maggie's hand. "Don't worry, she'll be fine."

Maggie's face was pale with guilt. " Adalia must have eaten something wrong. It's all my fault."

Fiorello comforted her. "Don't jump to conclusions. Let's see what the doctor says. Adalia's condition isn't that serious. I had a similar reaction once when I accidentally ate onions. Look at me now; I'm perfectly fine."

Fiorello had once had a severe allergic reaction to onions as a child, similar to what Adalia was experiencing now.

As they spoke, a doctor came over to ask what Adalia had eaten, trying to identify the allergen.

It was now clear that Adalia had an allergic reaction.
Maggie recalled what Adalia had eaten that day. "She had beef and vegetables, which she'd eaten before without any issues. Oh, and the barbecue sauce had onions. She ate onions."

Maggie suspected that Adalia might be allergic to onions, just like Fiorello.
