Chapter 705 Sit for a While Longer
Ever since the baby shower, Maggie hadn't heard from Dulce for several days. That evening, when Fiorello came back, she finally learned that Francis had been injured on a mission.
With Francis injured, Dulce probably didn't have the heart to visit her.
At the hospital.
Francis had been shot while chasing a suspect. After emergency treatment, his condition stabilized, and he was transferred to a regular ward.
When Francis woke up, Wendy was the one taking care of him. Neil and Elara also visited the hospital, treating him like their own son.
Dulce only found out about Francis's accident the next day from his colleague, Kieran.
Dulce hesitated for a long time before coming to the hospital to see Francis.
Wendy had gone home to cook, leaving her daughter Brianna at the hospital to keep Francis company, mainly to prevent Dulce from coming over.
Wendy was always uneasy, worried that Francis and Dulce might rekindle their old feelings.
Brianna was doing her homework in the ward while Francis rested in bed. He didn't dare to hope that Dulce would come to see him.
Francis was on the phone with a colleague discussing the case when he looked up and saw Dulce standing at the door with her hands in her pockets.
Francis was momentarily stunned, a surge of joy rising in his heart, but he didn't dare show it.
He fixed his gaze on Dulce and said to the person on the phone, "You handle the rest of the interrogation. Just show me the report later. I have something to take care of here, so I'll hang up now."
After hanging up, Francis sat up straight, a bit nervous. "Dulce, you're here."
"You're this injured and still thinking about work?" Dulce walked in, teasing, "Looks like the police department really can't do without you."
Brianna saw Dulce and immediately remembered Wendy's instructions: if any woman came to visit Francis, she had to call and report it.
"Francis, I need to go to the bathroom," Brianna stood up.
Francis nodded, "Go ahead, turn left when you exit, and don't wander off."
"Okay."
Brianna ran out to the hallway and used her smartwatch to call Wendy and report, "Mom, come quickly, there's a woman here to see Francis."
In the room, Dulce pulled up a chair and sat down, asking, "Francis, are you feeling better?"
"It's just a minor injury, I'll be fine in a few days." Francis didn't tell the truth; he had almost died from the gunshot wound.
But fortunately, the suspects had all been caught.
"That's good. I heard you were injured, so I came by to check on you." Dulce's tone was deliberately light. She glanced at the women's coat on the sofa and knew it was Wendy's. "Well, if you're okay, I'll be going."
She felt awkward staying there, not knowing what to say.
As long as she knew he was okay, that was enough.
"Dulce, wait." Francis called out to Dulce, hesitating, "Stay a little longer."
Francis's plea made Dulce feel a pang in her heart.
Some emotions surged uncontrollably when he spoke.
Dulce tried hard to hold back, forcing a smile as she sat back down. "Sure, do you want some water? I can get it for you."
Francis glanced at the apples in the fruit basket and said, "Could you peel an apple for me?"
Peeling an apple would take time, and he wanted to spend as much time with her as possible.
"Okay." Dulce picked up an apple, found a fruit knife, and sat in the chair, slowly peeling it.
