Chapter 566 Who is the Killer

Dylan, in order to treat the root cause, naturally had to find out the reason behind Mark's stroke.

Dylan determined the cause after conducting two tests: poisoning.

Fiorello glanced at the lab report, his brows furrowed. "Are you sure?"

"Yes," Dylan said, "This toxin is very common, but it's also the hardest to detect. It requires long-term ingestion to reach a certain level before causing a stroke."

Fiorello asked, "What toxin?"

"Hydrogen cyanide."

"This toxin isn't easy to get. As long as we investigate, we can trace its source."

Dylan shook his head. "This toxin can be extracted by anyone with a bit of knowledge. It can be extracted from apple seeds. Should we inform Mark?"

Fiorello pondered for a moment and said, "You mentioned it requires long-term ingestion and controlled dosage. If the dosage is too high, it could cause immediate poisoning and death, not a stroke."

"Yes, the dosage is very particular," Dylan said, "An amateur wouldn't be able to manage it."

"Long-term poisoning, wouldn't Mark be suspicious? Someone in the family?" Fiorello speculated.

"We still need to inform Mark," Dylan said gravely. "The perpetrator's motive is unclear. They might want to kill him, but if the dosage isn't enough, it could just cause a stroke. Maybe that's their intention."

"Got it," Fiorello said, "How long until he fully recovers?"

"Another month before he can move freely," Dylan said, "I've increased the medication to help detoxify."

"Thanks."

"I didn't come away empty-handed. I got an apprentice, so it was worth it," Dylan said with a smile. "By the way, for your wedding, I'll deduct the gift money from the consultation fee you paid."

Fiorello laughed, "Since when did you become so calculative, deducting the gift money?"

"Medicinal herbs are expensive these days; I have to be frugal."

As they were chatting, Fiorello heard a car and knew Maggie was back. He said to Dylan, "I'll discuss Mark's poisoning with Maggie first before deciding whether to tell him."

Dylan said, "Alright, that's between you two."

Fiorello went downstairs as Maggie and Eleanor came in, chatting and laughing.

"Maggie, Mom," Fiorello walked over and asked with a smile, "What did you buy?"

Both were carrying large bags.

Maggie laughed, "We bought you a tie and cufflinks. Mom said you're particular about these things, so we got your favorite brands. I picked them, and Mom paid."

Eleanor said, "Fiorello has been picky since he was a child. Now that Maggie can help with the shopping, I can relax. Where's Adalia?"

"Adalia is in her room studying," Fiorello said, "She loves learning about medicine. Let's not disturb her; let her learn while she's interested."

Arya also arrived and greeted, "Eleanor."

"Maggie's mom," Eleanor took out a scarf. "I bought this for you. See if you like it."

Arya was flattered. "You got something for me too."

While Arya and Eleanor chatted, Fiorello signaled to Maggie, and they headed to the backyard.

Maggie knew Fiorello had something to say. Once in the backyard, she asked, "What's up? Why did you call me out here?"

"Dylan found the cause of your dad's stroke. It's poisoning," Fiorello said, "Hydrogen cyanide poisoning."

"What?" Maggie was shocked. "Who would poison my dad? What's the motive?"

"After discussing with Dylan, we think there are two possibilities: either to cause a stroke or to kill him," Fiorello explained the situation briefly.

"Could it be Ashley?" Maggie speculated. "Ashley, out of love and hatred, might want my dad to have a stroke so he would be stuck at home and unable to go anywhere."
