Chapter 307 Three Conditions
Maggie's words left Mark in an awkward position, his expression turning quite unpleasant.
Throughout the evening, Maggie had not shown a single pleasant expression. Someone even with the best of tempers could not suppress their mood.
Mark set down his wine glass and said, "Maggie, you came to London, and both your Aunt Ashley, your siblings, and I welcome you. I specifically booked this restaurant to welcome you. Why can't you understand us?"
Seeing Mark lose his temper, Arya felt uneasy and kept giving Maggie meaningful looks. She then said to Mark, "Maggie just arrived; she's not very familiar yet."
"Mom, could you go downstairs and buy me some sanitary pads?" Maggie interrupted Arya with a smile.
She couldn't bear to see Arya being so humble in front of Mark and could only use this clumsy excuse to send her away.
Arya understood Maggie's intention.
Arya was worried about leaving Maggie alone and glanced at Mark with difficulty.
Maggie held Arya's hand and smiled. "Mom, please go buy them for me. You know which brand I usually use."
"Alright then." Arya had no choice but to leave.
After Arya left, Maggie glanced indifferently at the people present.
Ashley had a look of smugness mixed with disdain.
Timothy wore an expression of displeasure while Melissa leaned weakly against her chair, her face showing no discernible emotion.
Maggie said, "Today is indeed a rare good day. Let's get some things out in the open. Mr. Jackson, do you really want me to come home? If we don't clarify this, this meal won't be enjoyable."
Mark immediately responded, "You are my daughter, and naturally, I want to acknowledge you. This is not a lie."
"Alright." Maggie nodded. "Then I have three conditions. If Mr. Jackson can agree to them, I will acknowledge you. Twenty-five years ago, you abandoned my mother and left without a word. Now, you want to come back and take advantage? That's not how things work."
Maggie's blunt words made Mark blush, and he instinctively glanced at Ashley.
Ashley glared at Mark secretly. She was extremely bothered by Mark's past with Arya.
Melissa and Timothy were also surprised that Maggie spoke so unabashedly, saying such things.
Mark said, "Maggie, what are your conditions? Speak."
Maggie said bluntly, "First, I want to split the family assets. I don't want shares or property; convert everything to cash and deposit it into my account. I'll take one-third."
This first condition made Ashley lose her composure. "That's impossible, Maggie. You're too greedy. You come here and want to take one-third. That's the marital property between your father and me."
Timothy's expression also changed. "You're just here for the money. Splitting the family assets is out of the question."
Melissa said nothing, her eyes downcast, but she seemed quite interested in hearing Maggie's remaining two conditions.
Mark remained silent, and Maggie directly ignored Ashley and Timothy's reactions, continuing, "Second, hold a party and announce to the media that I am the daughter of the Jackson family. Third, hold a press conference and publicly apologize to my mother."
These three conditions made Mark feel as if he had swallowed a fly, extremely uncomfortable.
Except for the second condition, he couldn't fulfill the other two.
Ashley suddenly stood up. "Impossible, none of the three conditions are possible. Maggie, we've already been very kind in letting you come back. You can't push your luck. We've given you shares and property; don't go too far."
Maggie sneered at Mark and said, "Mr. Jackson, can't you do it?"
"Maggie, this..." Mark looked troubled. "The company is short on funds, and many projects are waiting for funding. Taking out one-third all at once could cause a collapse. Holding a party and acknowledging you as the daughter of the Jackson family, I can do that. Can you reconsider the rest?"
