Chapter 718 Business Trip
Fiorello was giving him orders.
Joseph was in a tough spot; if he could have coaxed her back, he would have done it already.
Moreover, this matter definitely couldn't involve Maggie, and Eleanor couldn't know that he and Fiorello were teaming up to get her to move back home, or it would break Eleanor's heart.
This matter had to be resolved quietly.
Joseph thought long and hard and finally came up with a plan: to fake an illness.
He was borrowing a page from Mark's book.
When Mark got sick, Arya brought him back to take care of him.
The next day, Joseph forged a fake medical report and lied to Eleanor, claiming he had cancer and didn't have much time left. He expressed his wish to spend his final days with her by his side.
Upon hearing this, Eleanor rushed back to the Flores Manor.
"Joseph, Joseph," Eleanor called as she walked upstairs.
Hearing her voice, Joseph quickly lay down and pretended to be sick. When Eleanor came in, he weakly said, "Eleanor, you're back."
"Do you have cancer? Did you get checked?" Eleanor asked anxiously.
Joseph nodded. "I've been to three hospitals, and they all gave the same diagnosis. I don't have any other wishes now, just hope to spend my last days with you. Don't tell the boys; it's terminal cancer, and there's no cure. Telling them would only make everyone sad."
"How could this happen? Weren't you fine before? Did you skip your regular check-ups?" Eleanor said emotionally. "Did the doctors say there's no hope? I'll call Dr. Mason and have him check you."
"Don't bother; it'll only worry Fiorello and Holden," Joseph said, acting well. "Just don't let them worry. I'm content with you being back."
Eleanor looked at the medical report and believed him. She didn't tell Fiorello and Holden, fearing they wouldn't be able to handle it.
Joseph's small wish to have Eleanor back was something she couldn't refuse, so she moved back home.
Maggie was particularly surprised, but Eleanor didn't reveal the real reason, only vaguely saying she wanted to live at home.
Maggie was puzzled, but Fiorello knew exactly what was going on.
At night, Maggie asked Fiorello, "What's going on with Mom? She was so reluctant to leave Katie and Nate; why did she move back home?"
"Isn't this great?" Fiorello said with a smile. "It'll give Dad and Mom a chance to mend their relationship, and everyone will be more comfortable."
Maggie gave Fiorello a suspicious look. "Did you do something? Did you give your dad some idea to get your mom to move out?"
"That's not important," Fiorello said, wrapping his arm around Maggie's waist to change the subject. "Did Benjamin say something crazy to you before? He came to confess to me after he sobered up."
"Don't worry, I'm not mad," Maggie said. "That's all in the past."
He didn't care about her past, and she wouldn't hold onto his.
Fiorello pondered, "Maggie, I didn't tell you before because I didn't think it was necessary, not because I wanted to hide it from you."
"It wasn't necessary," Maggie said with a smile. "My husband is charming; having a one-night stand is normal. But seriously, you don't remember what she looked like? No impression at all?"
Looking at the curious Maggie in front of him, Fiorello couldn't bring himself to say that the woman back then made him feel the same way Maggie did—irresistible.
If Maggie knew that, she'd be disgusted and angry.
Fiorello shook his head. "I don't remember. I drank too much. It's been so many years; let's just let it go."
Maggie snorted lightly. "I know what you're thinking. You're afraid I'll get mad, so you're saying that, right?"
Fiorello smiled and changed the subject. "I have a business trip tomorrow. Do you want to come with me?"
"Where to?" Maggie asked, lying on his chest.
"San Diego," Fiorello said. "The weather is nice there. After work, we can stay a few days and explore."
"That's too far," Maggie said, still reluctant to leave their three kids at home. As a mom, she couldn't let go. "You go ahead; I'll wait for you at home."
Fiorello understood Maggie's feelings and said, "Alright, I'll come back early."
Fiorello's business trip would last at least half a month.
The next day, Maggie packed Fiorello's clothes and saw him off.
Fiorello took two assistants and two bodyguards with him. Naturally, William and Brian went along.
Fiorello left Saskia at Sunset Hills to help Maggie.
While chatting with Saskia, Maggie learned that when Jenny mistook Saskia for her and tried to stab her, it was Ivan who stepped in to block the knife.
Maggie was astonished. "Why did he block the knife?"
She didn't know that Ivan was the man she had met in the hotel elevator in Sunshine Bay City.
Saskia shook her head. "I'm not sure. Brian and I were puzzled too. That guy works for Kyle."
Maggie was purely curious. "Do you have a photo? I'd like to see."
After Ivan escaped, Brian had already pulled up his personal information, including photos.
Saskia showed Maggie a photo.
It was a picture of Ivan without a mask, but Maggie still found him familiar. "He looks like someone I've seen before."
