Chapter 252 Disguising Their True Intentions
"I do." Maggie said, "Fiorello checked before and said that Adalia's biological parents died in a car accident, then she was sent to an orphanage by the community and later adopted by the Alan couple."
"Oh." Eleanor, for some reason, felt a little bit of loss in her heart.
If only this child were their own.
Maggie glanced at the time; it was almost lunchtime and said, "Eleanor, let's have lunch at home; I'll go buy groceries."
Eleanor smiled. "Sure, I'll chat with your mom."
"Alright." Maggie took the keys and said to Adalia, "Adalia, be good at home; listen to Grandma Eleanor and Arya."
Adalia obediently replied, "Okay."
Maggie went out to buy groceries, but the store was only two to three hundred feet away from the apartment, which was very close.
Maggie walked over and quickly bought the groceries. On her way back to the apartment, she saw Mark's car parked at the entrance.
Mark and a woman seemed to be inquiring with the security guard at the entrance.
She knew that Mark wouldn't give up easily.
Maggie didn't avoid them either; she carried the groceries and walked toward the apartment entrance.
Mark saw Maggie and approached with a smile. "Maggie, you went grocery shopping."
Ignoring Mark, Maggie knew that as long as his eyes were not blind, he could see that she had just come back from grocery shopping.
Accompanying Mark was Ashley, who, seeing Maggie's silence, said with a smile, "Maggie, your dad and I are here to take you back to Pearl Peak City."
"I never planned to go to Pearl Peak City." Maggie looked sharply at the two and said, "Please step aside."
Ashley anxiously said, "You've taken the house and shares, and now you're not going. If you don't go, then... what about Melissa?"
Worried that Ashley might reveal too much, Mark quickly interrupted. "Maggie, didn't your mom tell you about going back to Pearl Peak City? I'm taking you home; your home is in Pearl Peak City; of course, you have to come back with us. I also plan to teach you how to manage the vineyard so you can take over my business in the future."
"Mr. Jackson, is that your true intention?" Maggie sarcastically smiled, not believing a word of it.
"Of course," Mark said, "you have a talent for business."
Intentionally, Maggie asked, "How is Melissa doing?"
"Melissa's condition is stable. Just yesterday, we found a suitable bone marrow match, and the bone marrow transplant surgery can be done at any time," Mark said happily, "Maggie, you are my lucky charm. When your sister is discharged after recovering, our family can be together."
From Mark's expression, Maggie couldn't really tell if he was being truthful.
Did he really find a suitable bone marrow match?
If that were the case, Ashley wouldn't be so generous, Mark wouldn't be intending to pass on the family business to her, and Ashley wouldn't be in agreement.
There must be something fishy going on.
Mark was acting, and Maggie played along. She looked like she was contemplating, deliberately hesitated for a few seconds, and said, "My mom and I have lived here for decades; we're used to it. Pearl Peak City isn't far from Cyberland, and it's just a two-hour flight. Besides, Mr. Jackson has a new family now. If my mom come along to Pearl Peak City, it's not appropriate."
Maggie's words were clearly meant to give Arya an explanation.
Upon hearing this, Ashley was very angry, but for the sake of Melissa's illness, she had to endure it.
Mark felt awkward, glanced at Ashley, and said to Maggie, "I will give your mom an explanation; take care of her for a lifetime. In the future, we will be a family. Maggie, you can't bear to leave your job and friends here now, I understand. It's okay, you can come back later. This time, I just want you to come home."
Maggie smirked. "Then I'll think about it; I have to go back to cook, so I won't keep you."
She didn't want to play along with the two, but also couldn't be too aggressive. Otherwise, with Mark's social status and economic power, her life with Fiorello would be affected.
She could only ignore the two.
"Alright, you're busy, think it over and call me anytime," Mark said with a smile,
Maggie didn't say anything more; she carried the groceries into the apartment. As soon as she left, Ashley's expression changed. "What does Maggie mean? She still wants you to divorce me and marry her mom. If it weren't for Melissa's illness, I wouldn't tolerate this. She's really over the line."
