Chapter 378 The Rebellious Daughter
Maggie glanced at Paul, who was smoking and didn't seem to care. He said, "Don't look at me. If you want to take her, go ahead. I've raised this kid for so long, and she's still ungrateful. Waste of my food."
Maggie was speechless. This wasn't what she expected.
Dulce was unsure too. Taking the child back seemed too sudden.
Maggie, not wanting to upset Emily, gently said, "Hi, Emily. I can't take you today. You need to stay here a bit longer, okay? You might be my daughter, but we need to sort things out first. Understand?"
Emily shook her head. "No, I don't want to stay here. Mom, please take me away."
Emily glared at Paul. "I'm going to live a good life with my mom. If you hit me again, I'll have her call the police."
"Emily, say that again," Paul said, standing up menacingly.
Emily quickly hid behind Maggie. "Mom, see? He's going to hit me. Please take me away, or he'll beat me to death."
Maggie was torn. "Emily, your dad is just trying to scare you. He won't hit you. Be good, and I'll come to get you in a few days."
Maggie could tell Paul, despite his tough act, cared about Emily. Otherwise, he wouldn't have brought her back when she ran away.
"Mom," Emily whined.
Maggie didn't change her mind and said to Paul, "Mr. Sanchez, I'll need to trouble you with Emily for a few more days. I need a few strands of her hair for a test."
Paul took a drag of his cigarette. "Whatever, go ahead. Emily, if you want to go with your biological mom, we need to do a test first. Pull out a few strands of your hair yourself, or I'll do it, and don't blame me if I'm rough."
Kids these days knew a lot from TV. Emily, thinking of scenes from TV shows, quickly pulled out a few strands and handed them to Maggie. "Mom, you have to come get me soon."
"Okay." Maggie didn't want to promise, but seeing Emily's hopeful eyes, she couldn't refuse.
Maggie took the hair, thanked Paul, and left with Dulce.
Emily was reluctant, leaning against the window and looking downstairs.
Paul sneered, "That might not be your biological mom. If the test shows she's not, she won't come to get you. With your attitude, if I had a daughter like you, I'd want to throw her away."
"The pretty lady is definitely my biological mom. Paul, I told you, I'm a rich family's daughter, not a poor man's daughter like you. When my mom comes to get me, don't come looking for me." Emily was disgusted with Paul.
Paul laughed mockingly. "Don't worry. If your biological mom comes to get you, I won't bother you. You can leave now, and I won't stop you."
Ever since Emily found out she wasn't his biological daughter, she dreamed of being a rich family's daughter, hoping her wealthy parents would come for her.
This kid had watched too much TV and played with the kids in the apartments downstairs. Emily, influenced by this and with a strong sense of comparison, fantasized about being a rich family's daughter.
Emily defiantly said, "Tell me where my biological mom lives. I want to go find her now."
Paul, annoyed, said, "Go ahead. Your biological mom lives in Cityhomes West. If you're so capable, go."
With that, Paul took his cigarette and went to the bathroom.
He was just speaking out of anger.
But Emily remembered the name of the apartment and started planning how to find her real mom.
