Chapter 726 Natural and Man-Made Disasters
Melissa, through her abilities, had already secured two agents.
That night, the two of them opened champagne to celebrate, and Timothy genuinely admired Melissa.
"Melissa, you are truly a business genius. If Dad had handed over the company to you earlier, the Jackson family would have prospered long ago," Timothy said, feeling great after two glasses. "This time, with two agents secured, we can just wait to count the money."
Melissa was also in a good mood, elegantly sipping champagne. "Timothy, these two agents are just a small start. Tomorrow, we need to meet Charles from Sunrise Industries. If we can secure the agency for all their products, that's where the real money is."
Timothy gave a thumbs-up. "Melissa, from now on, I'll follow your lead. Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it."
He had always been willing to sacrifice for Melissa, without expecting anything in return, no matter the hardship.
Melissa enjoyed the affection Timothy gave her. "Timothy, with us in the Jackson family, we'll surpass Visionary Futures Group sooner or later. Get some rest tonight; we need to head to Flames Village early tomorrow."
Timothy asked, "What are we going there for?"
"To negotiate at the Sunrise Industries factory. It shows more sincerity and makes it easier for us to understand their products. We can also shoot some video clips to gain more trust from our online followers, increasing our sales power," Melissa explained. "Securing Sunrise Industries is not just about making money; it's about establishing our foundation and status. Sunrise Industries is a big brand with significant influence."
Timothy didn't quite understand all this, but he knew his job was just to work hard.
"Alright, I'll listen to you. I'll go back to my room to rest now and find you as soon as I wake up tomorrow."
After finishing his champagne, Timothy returned to his hotel room, feeling unwell.
Since donating bone marrow, his health had been deteriorating, and he would get a fever from overexertion.
Following Melissa to secure two agents had exhausted Timothy, and he developed a fever that night.
Timothy didn't want Melissa to worry, so he endured it alone.
The next day, due to his fever, Timothy woke up late, delaying their trip to Flames Village. By the time they set off, it was already 10 AM.
Melissa was very angry and kept a stern face the whole way. Timothy kept apologizing, "Melissa, I'm sorry. It's my fault. I overslept. I promise it won't happen again."
Timothy still didn't tell Melissa that he overslept because he was feeling unwell.
Melissa sternly said, "Timothy, we had an appointment at 10 AM. It's almost 11 now, and it takes over an hour to get there. How are we going to explain being late?"
Melissa was no longer the obedient girl from the hospital. She had doubled the Jackson Group's market value and made money, which had inflated her ego, making her words sharper.
Timothy didn't argue with Melissa and continued to coax her with a smile. "Melissa, it's all my fault. I'll buy you a gift."
Timothy had always coaxed Melissa this way.
He always treated Melissa like a little sister, someone he needed to protect.
"Timothy, how can you be so childish? I'm not a three-year-old anymore."
Melissa's tone was impatient.
Hearing this, Timothy's eyes dimmed with a hint of disappointment, and he forced a bitter smile. "I forgot, Melissa has grown up."
Melissa didn't notice Timothy's emotions. She saw through the rearview mirror that a rescue team was coming from behind, and there were police setting up roadblocks ahead, signaling them to turn back.
Timothy asked, "Melissa, what's going on?"
"Timothy, go ask," Melissa instructed.
Timothy got out of the car to inquire and found out that there had been a landslide ahead, even collapsing the tunnel entrance, burying dozens of cars. The incident had happened at 9:30 AM.
Timothy broke into a cold sweat. If they had left at their originally scheduled time, they might have encountered the landslide.
Timothy quickly returned to the car. "Melissa, the tunnel ahead collapsed, and there's a landslide. Dozens of cars are buried. We can't go through."
Melissa became anxious. "This is the only road to Flames Village. What should we do?"
At that moment, a large number of rescue teams arrived, and local news reporters came to cover the story.
Many drivers who had narrowly escaped were sitting by the roadside, still in shock.
Melissa got out of the car to see and overheard the conversation between the police and the rescue team.
"How many vehicles are involved? What's the current death toll?"
"Approximately fifty vehicles are involved. So far, eight people are dead, and twenty are seriously injured."
"We must hurry. Experts predict another landslide this afternoon."
"Charles from Sunrise Industries called. He had an appointment with Mr. Flores, the CEO of Visionary Futures Group, this morning. Mr. Flores hasn't shown up yet. They want to confirm if he's among the victims."
"Not yet. Many vehicles are still buried. The workload is enormous; we need more rescue efforts."
Fiorello was here too?
Melissa was shocked and looked ahead at the landslide, vaguely seeing some buried vehicles.
Timothy came over. "Melissa, we need to leave quickly. They say there's another landslide coming."
Melissa said, "Timothy, we can't leave. Fiorello might be buried in there."
