Chapter 629 Deliberate Approach
The moment Maggie and Jenny's eyes met, an unusual feeling surged in her heart. It was clearly a stranger's face, yet she felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
The other person suddenly nodded at her and approached warmly, "Hi, are you a resident around here? I'm conducting a small emotional survey. Can you help me out? I just graduated and am interning; this is part of my job."
Jenny adopted the demeanor of a recent college graduate, deliberately getting close to Maggie.
Maggie politely shook her head, "Sorry, I don't live around here."
"Oh, I see," Jenny smiled, "No problem, we can still chat. May I ask your name?"
Jenny asked knowingly.
Maggie was a bit put off by strangers approaching her like they were conducting a survey. Out of politeness, she replied, "My last name is Miller."
"Miss Miller," Jenny said warmly, "Can I add you on Facebook?"
"Sorry," Maggie replied with just these words, and Jenny understood what she meant.
Seeing Maggie's polite distance, Jenny smiled and introduced herself, "You can call me Christina; everyone does. Are you alone?"
Jenny wanted to take the opportunity to find out if Maggie was out alone or with someone.
Maggie was a bit annoyed by her persistent questioning; it was somewhat impolite.
Maggie turned the tables and asked, "Are you from around here?"
"Yes, I live in the apartment across the street," Jenny said, seeing Maggie engage, she started to get closer, "Miss Miller, are you married?"
Jenny saw the ring on Maggie's ring finger and asked knowingly.
Maggie replied expressionlessly, "Yes, I am."
"Miss Miller, can I add you on Facebook?" Jenny thickened her skin and said, "Help me out, just a small survey."
"What company are you doing the emotional survey for?" Maggie asked with interest.
Jenny casually said, "A media company making short videos. We want to ask young people today about their views on relationships."
Jenny's adaptability was strong; she could lie effortlessly.
While chatting with Jenny, Maggie was also secretly observing her. The apartment across the street was in a villa area, and the people living there were definitely not ordinary.
A recent graduate interning surely couldn't afford such a place, and the other person had no jewelry on, not even perfume, which didn't seem like someone who could live in the villa across the street.
Maggie also wanted to know what the other person was up to, so she said, "Ask whatever questions you have."
What intrigued Maggie was the sense of familiarity the other person gave her.
"Thank you," Jenny took the opportunity to ask, "Is your husband your first love?"
Maggie: "No."
"Then what was the reason for your breakup with your first love? Have you had children? Why did you marry your husband? In marriage, do you value money or the person more?"
Jenny's questions were strange, and the more Maggie listened, the more she felt something was off because the questions were all about her marriage with Fiorello.
"Sorry, I can't answer some of these questions," Maggie said, "In marriage, I value character more."
Jenny aggressively asked, "If your husband went bankrupt or had no money, would you still choose him? Can you tell the truth? There's no one else here; you can be honest. If you were pregnant, would you worry about your husband cheating? Statistics show that the cheating rate of husbands during their wives' pregnancy is ninety percent."
Maggie didn't answer these questions but instead asked, "Do you have a boyfriend?"
Jenny shook her head, "No."
She just wanted to confirm if Maggie loved Fiorello for his money or for him as a person.
Maggie smiled ambiguously and said, "For your questions, once you have a boyfriend, the answers will come naturally."
Maggie didn't believe her because she had just seen a deep hickey on the other person's neck. If it wasn't too wild, it wouldn't leave such a deep mark.
Seeing that Maggie wasn't falling for it, Jenny was very angry. Her eyes fixed on Maggie's belly, and thinking about the twins inside, she became even more jealous.
"I haven't considered these things yet," Jenny forced a smile. Before she could finish her sentence, she saw Francis coming in from outside. Only then did she realize that Maggie was with Francis.
Seeing Francis made Jenny scared. She wanted to find an excuse to leave, but a plan suddenly popped into her head.
