Chapter 304 Detecting the Conspiracy
Mark was somewhat surprised but didn't think much of it. After advising Arya to rest well and booking a room for Maggie, he left.
After Mark left, Arya held Maggie's hand and earnestly said, "Maggie, he is your father. It's not appropriate to keep calling him Mr. Jackson. You are father and daughter. I hope you can get along well."
Maggie sighed inwardly, feeling a bit helpless for having such an emotionally attached mother.
On one hand, Maggie couldn't bear to let Arya see Mark's true nature, and on the other, she worried that Arya would get hurt if she got too deeply involved.
Maggie truly wished that Mark had never appeared so she and Arya could continue their peaceful life.
Maggie changed the subject and said, "Mom, do you want some fruit? I'll peel one for you."
Understanding Maggie's intention, Arya nodded.
Maggie picked up an apple and started peeling it, casually asking, "Mom, when do you plan to go back? If you're feeling well, it's better to return to Cyberland. You're used to living there and won't have trouble with the climate."
Maggie didn't directly expose Arya's feigned illness, but her words were enough to make someone feel guilty.
Arya felt quite guilty and said, "I'll stay a few more days. Since you're in London, you should take the opportunity to look around. By the way, does Fiorello know you're here?"
"He knows," Maggie replied, not planning to reveal Fiorello's true identity to her mother just yet.
Arya was currently infatuated with Mark and might accidentally reveal something to him.
Although Maggie wasn't in the business world, there were some things she couldn't make too clear. If Mark knew that Fiorello was the owner of the Visionary Futures Group, he might get other ideas, which would be troublesome.
Arya couldn't see through Maggie's thoughts and tentatively said, "Maggie, your father is genuinely happy that you're in London. He specifically arranged a welcome dinner for you. When you meet Melissa and Timothy tonight, don't cause any trouble, and don't get upset by anything Ashley says."
"Mom, what was your original intention in wanting me to integrate into the Jackson family?" Maggie interrupted Arya, "If you are unwilling and want me to help you reclaim everything that belongs to you, I will do as you wish. But if it's just to please Mark and make him happy, I can't guarantee that I won't do something that will upset people."
Arya looked at Maggie in shock, opening her mouth to say something, but was unable to speak.
"I never intended to compete with Ashley," Arya said. "I just want you to get along peacefully with your father and hope you can gain the Jackson family's approval."
Maggie understood that Arya had a knot in her heart. Over twenty years ago, she wasn't accepted by the Jackson family, so she placed her hopes on Maggie.
Maggie hugged Arya tenderly and said, "Alright, I promise you."
Maggie couldn't bear to blame Arya for being foolish and confused; she felt more pity than anything else.
After spending some time with Arya, Maggie took her luggage and returned to her own room.
She unpacked her luggage, organized her things, and checked the room for anything unusual. She didn't trust Mark.
Holden returned before dinner, bringing news to Maggie.
"Maggie, I've found out everything. The Jackson family lives on Central Avenue, which is far from here, in the completely opposite direction, about fifty miles away."
Holden said while drinking coffee, "I also inquired about Melissa's illness. It's leukemia, and her condition is very bad. They haven't found a suitable bone marrow for a transplant, and she could die at any time."
"Mark indeed lied." Maggie felt a chill despite knowing the outcome.
Mark had previously lied to her, saying that Melissa's condition was stable and that she didn't need to donate bone marrow. It was all nonsense.
Holden said, "Maggie, I found out something else."
"Tell me quickly," Maggie urged.
"Mark's son Timothy is a match for Melissa and can do the bone marrow transplant. However, it seems that Mark and his wife are unwilling to sacrifice their son's health to save their daughter. It's a difficult choice."
Maggie felt a deep chill. Mark was unwilling to sacrifice his own son but was willing to sacrifice her.
