Chapter 354 Doing It the Other Way
To win over Kimberly, she had to play to her interests.
Maggie found out from Holden that Kimberly loved playing cards. So, after finishing her chores, she hurried to Cloud Pavilion to join her.
When Maggie showed up, Kimberly instantly knew Holden had set her up. She shot him a glare and spat, "Liar."
Kimberly stood up to leave.
Holden quickly tried to smooth things over. "Grandma, Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Turner are here. Are you really going to leave without playing a bit?"
Kimberly didn't like Maggie, but Maggie didn't let it bother her. She greeted them with a smile, "Grandma, Mrs. Perez, Mrs. Turner, hello."
"This is Fiorello's wife," Ruby Perez, who had seen the anniversary broadcast, recognized Maggie and smiled. "She's even prettier in person."
Lenora Turner chimed in, "She looks great. Kimberly, you've got a wonderful granddaughter-in-law."
Hearing her friends praise Maggie made Kimberly uncomfortable. She ignored the compliments and said, "I'll call someone else to play cards with us."
Lenora interjected, "Your granddaughter-in-law is here. Maggie, do you know how to play cards?"
"Yes," Maggie replied with a smile, "I'll play with you for a while."
Kimberly snapped, "I won't play cards with her."
The two old ladies exchanged confused looks, wondering what was up.
Holden smiled and said, "Grandma, it's almost ten o'clock. If you don't play now, it'll be lunchtime soon. What a waste."
Maggie teased, "Grandma, are you afraid of losing to me? You're the elder; I'll definitely let you win."
Kimberly, a card shark in her own right, couldn't stand such remarks.
"I'm not afraid of you. I've been playing cards for decades. You won't beat me. Today, I'll see how good you really are."
"Then let's sit down and start," Maggie said with a slight smile, "Remember, I'll let you win."
Kimberly angrily sat down, and the game began.
Maggie secretly signaled to Holden, who discreetly gave an OK gesture in return.
Maggie played many rounds with the old ladies. With Holden's help, Maggie kept winning, and Kimberly kept losing. She was furious and kept demanding another round.
Maggie shook her head inwardly, thinking what a cute and stubborn old lady she was.
Just then, Holden's phone rang. It was Fiorello.
He stepped out to answer, "Fiorello, what's up?"
"Is Maggie with you?" Fiorello asked.
"Yeah, we're playing cards with Grandma," Holden said happily. "Fiorello, you have to praise me this time. I've put a lot of effort into easing the tension between Grandma and Maggie."
"Does Maggie know how to play cards?"
In his office at Visionary Futures, Fiorello stood by the window with one hand in his pocket. "Grandma's a card shark. Maggie won't stand a chance."
"Don't worry about that. I just need to do a little trick, and no matter how good Grandma is, she won't beat Maggie," Holden said smugly. "Grandma's almost out of patience. Her face looks terrible. Maggie said this is called reverse psychology. She wants to provoke Grandma's competitive spirit."
Fiorello chuckled.
Maggie had a lot of tricks up her sleeve.
Kimberly was stubborn and obstinate. The more Maggie went along with her, the less she would like her.
Fiorello advised, "Keep an eye on them. Don't let Grandma find out, or they might end up fighting."
"Don't worry, I won't let Grandma find out."
Holden ended the call and returned to the game room to help Maggie.
After a few more rounds, Kimberly was still losing.
She was fuming.
Just then, a familiar female voice called out, "Kimberly, who made you so angry?"
