Chapter 509 Awkwardness

Fiorello was stressing out, worried Holden might spill the beans and let the family back home find out.

Joseph was still knee-deep in planning Gregory and Jenny's wedding.

Holden said, "Fiorello, why keep it a secret? Dad's dying for Jenny to marry in, and after all, the baby Jenny's carrying is still a Flores."

Holden suddenly stopped, realizing. "Wait, the baby Jenny's carrying is a Flores. When the time comes, Dad's gonna be torn. Should he protect the Flores family kid or avenge Grandma?"

"I don't think Jenny can marry into the Flores family. Gregory isn't someone to be trifled with; he won't let the Holmes family push him around." Fiorello could guess Gregory's thoughts from him postponing the wedding and partying outside.

Gregory wasn't dumb.

The Holmes family wanted to use Gregory, but they probably picked the wrong guy.

Holden said, "Fiorello, what do you think Gregory's thinking? If he doesn't want to marry, why doesn't he just say no? And he doesn't seem to want to come back either, his relationship with Dad is super strained."

"He's feeling unbalanced and pissed off." Fiorello said. "I've looked into it. Gregory's biological mom, Natalie Kelly, was once Dad's secretary. Later, she killed herself because of depression. Gregory's probably been feeling conflicted all along. He hates Dad and the Flores family, yet he carries the Flores family's blood. Having to live as an illegitimate child in the shadows, he must be very resentful."

"He's really nuts, always going against you but can't beat you," Holden snorted, "I don't know what Dad was thinking back then, doing something that wronged Mom. Mom's been giving him the cold shoulder for almost half a year because he wants to acknowledge Gregory."

Eleanor couldn't stop Joseph from acknowledging Gregory, nor did she try to, but she gave him the cold shoulder. They lived under the same roof but slept in separate rooms, like strangers.

Fiorello frowned. "I'm heading out for a bit."

Holden asked, "Fiorello, if it really was Jenny who killed Grandma, would you still bring Maggie back?"

Fiorello stayed silent. His relationship with Maggie wasn't that simple. Even though the issue with Kimberly was over, there was one thing that would never change.

Kimberly had drugged and killed Maggie's baby, and Maggie had stabbed Kimberly. These were real events that had happened.

Fiorello went out, drove to Maggie's apartment building, and parked by the roadside without going up. He smoked in the car. It was so late; she should be asleep.

Fiorello took out his phone, searched his contacts, and didn't need to remember deliberately; Maggie's WhatsApp account automatically came to mind.

He entered the WhatsApp account in the search bar, and Maggie's WhatsApp popped up on the screen.

Back when he was in a coma, Joseph had removed Maggie from his WhatsApp contacts and blocked her number.

Fiorello had never added her back, partly out of consideration for Joseph and partly to naturally disappear from her world.

He had once promised to shield her from the wind and rain and give her happiness.

But all her storms were related to him.

If she hadn't met him, she would still be that girl selling goods at the night market, living a simple and happy life.

Fiorello hesitated, then unblocked her number and opened the chat with Maggie.

Meanwhile, Maggie, who had just returned from the traffic police station, sat alone on the window seat, feeling very confused. She looked through her old prenatal check-up records, feeling a sharp pain in her heart.

She blamed herself deeply for not protecting her baby, or else Kimberly and Isabella wouldn't have harmed her baby.

Maggie took a deep breath to ease the pain in her heart and, as usual, found Fiorello in her contacts and typed a message.

Maggie: [I miss you again, and I feel so sad.]

Maggie didn't think much at the time and certainly didn't expect that Fiorello had unblocked her.

She hadn't deleted Fiorello, so even if he unblocked her, she wouldn't get any notification.

When the message showed as sent, Maggie was stunned.

She was dazed for a few seconds and quickly hit recall.

But Fiorello, in the car downstairs, had already seen it.
