Chapter 414 Thoughts Revealed
Maggie gently stroked her belly, smiling. "We didn't check the gender. Boy or girl, both are great."
"You've only been married to Fiorello for a few months and you're already pregnant. I'm in my thirties and still don't know where my child is," Isabella said, half-joking. "My mom says I'm destined to be alone."
Maggie teased, "You're beautiful and capable. Plenty of men are after you. Finding a good husband won't be hard."
"I know what those men are after. James is paralyzed, and they're eyeing me and my money," Isabella joked. "Besides, compared to Fiorello, those men don't measure up."
"It's not that extreme," Maggie said, thinking Isabella was just joking. "Are you really planning to stay single?"
"If I can't find the best, being single is fine too," Isabella laughed. "If you let me have Fiorello, I wouldn't hesitate. Such a good man, you have to hold on to him."
Isabella's words were a bit much. She was happy today but also a bit jealous of Maggie, so she said it.
Maggie forced a smile, and Isabella quickly added, "Don't worry. I'm just joking. I wouldn't steal your husband. Besides, Fiorello wouldn't be interested in someone like me, divorced and older than him."
Isabella was indeed a bit older than Fiorello.
Even though Isabella said she was joking, Maggie felt a bit uncomfortable.
Not all jokes were appropriate.
Maggie didn't say anything, and Isabella laughed again. "Maggie, you really took it seriously. Can't even take a joke? So petty. I wouldn't really steal your husband."
"No." Maggie smiled. Today was Isabella's store opening, so she couldn't really take a joke seriously.
While they were talking, Fiorello called. He was coming to pick up Maggie and would be there soon.
After the call, Maggie went to wait by the roadside. Soon, Fiorello arrived.
Because of the earlier conversation, Isabella walked Maggie to the roadside, watched her get in the car, and then went back into the store, avoiding Fiorello to hide her feelings.
Maggie noticed Isabella's coldness towards Fiorello but didn't think much of it.
Brian was driving, and Fiorello sat in the back with Maggie.
Fiorello held Maggie's hand and said, "You got up so early today. I'll take you home to get some sleep first."
Maggie laughed. "You know exactly what I want."
She was indeed drowsy. As her belly grew larger, the strain on her back increased, and the aftereffects of a previous injury became apparent. Sitting for a long time caused pain, but she didn't dare let Fiorello know, fearing he would worry.
Maggie leaned on Fiorello's shoulder, her gaze lowered, and she stroked her belly, saying, "The baby was a bit naughty today, kicked me a few times."
"When he comes out, if it's a boy, I'll teach him a lesson."
Maggie laughed. "What if it's a girl?"
Fiorello said seriously, "Verbal education."
"Fiorello, you're favoring girls over boys," Maggie said, amused. "Treat them equally."
"That's not the same. Boys need to be more responsible." Fiorello had many reasons. "A boy can't be spoiled."
"I bet you'll be reluctant to discipline him if we really have a son," Maggie snorted, "Let's go back to the Flores Mansion. It's been a while, and your mom has mentioned it several times. It's not right if we don't go back. I heard Kimberly urging you to go home this morning."
Eleanor had mentioned it to Fiorello several times, and Maggie had overheard. She also wanted to visit the elders, but Fiorello wouldn't allow it.
Fiorello protected her too well. A family shouldn't stay estranged like this.
Fiorello frowned. "My mom said that when she was pregnant with me, she almost had a miscarriage because of my grandma. Your health isn't good, so I can't let you get upset."
"If we don't go back, Kimberly will be even more upset," Maggie held Fiorello's arm and said, "The doctor said that the baby and I are doing well. Let's go back to the Flores Mansion tonight and make your mom happy."
Maggie wasn't doing it for Kimberly but for Eleanor.
Eleanor was genuinely good to her. It was only natural for her to want Maggie to come home for a meal.
