Chapter 276 Returning to Normal Life

Nothing escapes Maggie’s notice.

Arya gave an awkward smile and said, "He came to see me once."

As expected, Maggie wasn’t surprised. While tying on her apron and starting to cook, she asked, "What did he want this time?"

"Your dad said he wants you to come home next month," Arya stood at the kitchen door, speaking while watching Maggie's reaction,

She looked as cautious as a child caught doing something wrong.

Maggie sighed inwardly and asked, "What did you say to him?"

Seeing that Maggie didn't have a strong reaction, Arya felt a bit braver and said, "I told him I'd discuss it with you when you got back."

Maggie cut to the chase and asked, "Did he say how he plans to take care of you?"

This question stumped Arya. Mark had mentioned compensation but hadn’t provided any concrete details.

Even the property deed and share transfers were for Maggie. Arya had only received verbal promises.

Arya gave a sheepish smile. "Don't worry about me. As long as you can go back, that's all that matters. Mark said he wants you to help manage the vineyard and that he'd find Fiorello a better-paying job."

Maggie put down the bread, stood up straight, and asked, "Mom, what else did you promise him?"

This question left Arya at a loss for words.

"Well..." Arya couldn't meet Maggie's eyes and stammered,

Maggie asked bluntly, "Mom, have you thought this through? Mark has a son, a daughter, and a wife."

If Arya had gone to London without proper status, would she have gone as a friend or a mistress?

Arya looked at Maggie with difficulty, her lips trembling, unable to say anything. She stood there awkwardly.

Seeing Arya like this made Maggie feel sad. She walked over and hugged her. "Mom, I'm just worried about you getting hurt. You care about me, and I care about you. But I want you to be happy. If Mark wants you to go to London and you want to go, then go."

Maggie didn't stop her. Some things Arya needed to see for herself.

It might be a bit cruel, but it was better than having regrets.

Arya felt ashamed, but she really wanted to go to London, not just for Mark but also to pave the way for Maggie.

If Mark genuinely wanted to acknowledge them as family, it would be a happy ending. If not, she wouldn't let Mark hurt Maggie.

Arya didn't say much more. She was very grateful to have such an understanding daughter.

Soon, Fiorello and Adalia came back with groceries. Adalia went to play with Arya, while Fiorello went into the kitchen to help Maggie with the cooking.

That night, as they lay in bed, Maggie nestled in Fiorello’s arms and talked about Arya.

Fiorello didn't have much to say about it, and Maggie was just venting.

Fiorello gently stroked her head and said, "Let things take their course."

"Okay." Maggie took a deep breath, hugged his waist, and closed her eyes. "I'm tired. I need to sleep early. I have work tomorrow."

"Alright, go to sleep."

The next day, Maggie walked Adalia to the kindergarten. Since it was close by, they went on foot.

Adalia was very well-behaved. When they reached the school gate, she waved to Maggie. "Bye, Mom."

Maggie smiled and waved back. "Bye, listen to your teacher. I'll pick you up after school. If I can't make it, Arya will."

"Okay."

Adalia followed the teacher inside. Maggie watched for a moment, making sure Adalia went into the classroom before turning to leave.

At the school gate, Fiorello was waiting in a Chevrolet parked by the roadside.

Seeing her come out, he honked the horn.

Maggie saw the Chevrolet and was surprised. "They returned it so quickly?"

They had taken the train back, and the Chevrolet had been shipped.

Fiorello rolled down the window. "It was a short trip. They delivered it last night. Get in, I'll drive you to work."

Maggie got in the car. She hadn't been to work for a few months and felt a bit nervous.

Fiorello dropped her off at the company entrance. They waved goodbye, and after Fiorello drove off, Maggie turned and walked into the company.

She had barely taken a few steps when she saw Farrell standing at the entrance, staring at her intensely.
