Chapter 278 Midnight Stalker
Maggie didn't think much of it and smiled, saying, "Yes, the benefits at the Visionary Futures Group are indeed good. My husband said that because of his excellent work performance, he's getting another raise. This makes things a bit easier for us. We can save more money, and we won't have to worry about Adalia's education in the future."
As Maggie spoke about this, her face was full of hope for the future, radiating happiness.
Increased income naturally led to an increase in happiness.
Ninety percent of the worries in this world come from not having enough money.
Maggie and Fiorello now had a three-bedroom apartment, and both of them had good incomes. Maggie felt optimistic about the future.
Angela looked at Maggie's smile and smiled along, saying, "It's true, happiness comes from being content."
Maggie's smile was infectious. Seeing her so easily satisfied, Angela finally understood why the head of the Flores family chose the ordinary Maggie.
Maggie agreed, "Angela, you're right. Contentment brings happiness. Adalia is almost five now, and she'll start first-grade next fall. She hasn't been to school before, so she's quite behind her peers. I'm worried she won't keep up in first grade. I'm thinking of enrolling her in a preparatory class."
Maggie was planning Adalia's future, genuinely concerned for her family.
Angela asked, "Maggie, don't you plan to have a child of your own with your husband?"
Maggie didn't know how to answer. Both she and Fiorello were infertile, so they definitely couldn't have children.
But she couldn't share this with anyone. Smiling, Maggie replied, "We'll let nature take its course. Angela, do we have any more clients to meet this afternoon?"
Maggie had to change the subject.
"Yes, I do," Angela said, "I'll organize the work from the past two months for you to review. You should get the hang of it quickly and won't feel so overwhelmed."
"Thank you, Angela," Maggie said sincerely, "Since you returned to AL Jewelry, the design department has been very cooperative."
"Everyone in the department knows about your car accident, and the instigator is in jail. They don't dare to cause trouble," Angela said, "Everyone's been hoping you'd come back soon."
Maggie didn't believe this. Angela was just comforting her. The fact that the design department was under control was all thanks to Angela.
Angela was a long-time employee of AL Jewelry and had a certain level of authority. Her endorsement of Maggie made others accept her.
Maggie had almost finished eating and was about to clear her tray when she saw Farrell approaching with a toolbox.
Just like in the morning, Farrell's gaze was still strange.
Maggie felt a sudden tension. Someone called out from outside the cafeteria, "Farrell, come fix the toilet. It's clogged again."
Farrell finally looked away, carrying his toolbox past Maggie and heading outside.
Once Farrell was gone, Maggie let out a sigh of relief.
Angela asked, "Maggie, what's wrong?"
Maggie said, "I don't know why, but Farrell is acting weird. He was staring at me this morning, too, and it scared me."
Angela said, "After the conflict with the sales department at Ann's party last Friday, Farrell's situation in the company has become more difficult. It's normal for him to be a bit emotional."
Maggie still felt that Farrell was acting strange, but she didn't say anything more. She stood up and said, "Angela, let's go back to the office."
"Okay."
The two of them got up and left.
Since that day, Maggie always felt like there were eyes watching her from the shadows, making her feel a bit scare, but she couldn't find anyone.
Unbeknownst to her, Farrell had been following her, keeping track of her habits. He knew whether she took the subway, a cab, or got picked up after work and had even followed her to her Cityhomes West apartment, learning where she lived.
One day, after work, Maggie waited at the company entrance and received a message that Fiorello was working late and couldn't pick her up, so she decided to take the subway.
Behind her, Farrell, wearing a mask, followed her all the way.
By the time Maggie exited the subway station, it was already half past seven in the aftertoon, and it was dark.
The walk from the subway to her apartment was only about half a mile, and Maggie usually walked home.
After exiting the station, Maggie headed straight for her apartment. As she walked, she sensed something was wrong. Under the streetlight, she saw a shadow following her.
Her heart raced, and she quickened her pace. The person behind her sped up as well. Terrified, Maggie started running. The person chased after her and grabbed her shoulder.
Maggie froze in place, her face turning pale with fear.
