Chapter 78 Blacked Out

In a hushed whisper, Maggie swiveled her head towards him, her voice laced with a forced calmness. "I blacked out. What transpired last night?" She appeared to be adrift in a sea of confusion.

Fiorello responded with a soft chuckle, his grip on her hand tightening as he expressed his regret. "Such a pity."

Maggie found herself at a loss for words.

Upon reaching their car, Fiorello courteously opened the door for her. "We're running late," he warned.

A sense of urgency washed over Maggie.

"Let's hurry," she urged. "My boss is notorious for her stern nature. If I'm tardy, I'll be in for another lecture."

As Fiorello slid into the driver's seat and ignited the engine, he queried, "Has Selena been treating you poorly?"

Maggie, realizing her slip of the tongue, quickly countered, "Not at all. I'm still finding my footing here. There's so much I don't comprehend yet. She's merely guiding me. Everyone at the company has been nothing but kind."

Always the optimist, she chose to focus on the positive aspects.

How could Fiorello be oblivious to the happenings within the company? He had personally assigned Jones Bary, the branch's general manager, to keep a watchful eye on Maggie. He was well aware of the altercation that had taken place between Maggie and Selena in the office the previous day.

Fiorello refrained from intervening, as the timing wasn't right. He had been sheltering Maggie excessively, which wasn't necessarily beneficial. Yet, she hadn't let him down.

"That's reassuring," Fiorello commented. "If you ever feel mistreated or require assistance, don't hesitate to inform your husband. I'll be there to defend you."

Maggie's cheeks flushed at the memory of her affectionately addressing Fiorello as 'honey' the previous night. "Alright," she agreed.

Fiorello's words imbued her with a profound sense of security.

As the car glided forward, Maggie sighed, "In reality, one car suffices for our family. The last car we purchased was an unnecessary expenditure - parking fees, insurance, it all adds up."

These days, Fiorello was her chauffeur, leaving the new car untouched.

"I might need to embark on a business trip soon. When that happens, you'll be able to drive yourself to work. I have a commitment tonight, so I won't be able to pick you up. You'll need to hail a cab home."

Maggie instinctively inquired, "How long will you be away? Where are you headed? When will you return?"

Her questions echoed the concern of a wife seeking details about her husband's itinerary.

Fiorello responded with a smile, "I said 'might.' If I do leave, I'll inform you well in advance, as a responsible husband should."

"I was merely asking out of curiosity," Maggie retorted, avoiding his gaze and falling silent.

Upon reaching the company's entrance, Maggie noticed the ticking clock and, without a moment to spare for a farewell to Fiorello, she dashed upstairs to the office.

She managed to clock in with a mere ten seconds to spare.

Fiorello's car remained stationary downstairs. He didn't hasten his departure, instead taking the time to order breakfast for Maggie before finally driving away.

Visionary Futures Group.

Holden, behind the wheel of his newly acquired Ferrari, encountered Fiorello at the entrance of the parking lot.

Initially, Holden failed to recognize him, only realizing it was Fiorello upon spotting the license plate.

It was his brother, masquerading as a pauper.

The two brothers navigated their vehicles into the underground parking lot. After parking, Holden emerged from his car and jokingly asked, "Fiorello, how does it feel to drive a Chevrolet?"

Fiorello casually tossed the car keys to Holden, challenging, "Why don't you give it a whirl?"

Holden caught the keys reflexively and laughed, "If I drive this car around, all the girls will scatter. Not every girl is like my sister-in-law, indifferent to wealth and poverty."

Fiorello dismissed him and headed towards the CEO's private elevator.

Holden followed, a playful grin on his face. "Fiorello, you drive the Chevrolet every day, you don't even need the Rolls-Royce at home. Why don't you lend it to me for a few days?"

Fiorello declined flatly, "Neither cars nor wives are meant to be lent."

"Fiorello, with so many cars in your garage, one less won't make a difference."

Fiorello remained unmoved.

Switching tactics, Holden said cryptically, "Our mother called me last night and shared some news. Are you interested?"

"No need," Fiorello replied impassively, "She's planning my wedding with Maggie."

Holden stared at Fiorello in shock, "How did you know? Mom said it was supposed to be a secret."

Fiorello glanced at Holden, thinking, what secrets could the Flores family possibly have in his presence?

Holden deflated, "Fiorello, you're so dull. No wonder you haven't won over my sister-in-law yet."

Fiorello raised an eyebrow, "How do you know I haven't?"

Upon hearing this, Holden looked at him in surprise, "Fiorello...you succeeded?"
