Chapter 737 Time Flies Without a Trace
Maggie hadn't called for long before Holden arrived in his car.
Seeing Maggie standing at the entrance of Pinecrest Medical Village, Holden quickly approached and asked with concern, "Maggie, are you okay? Why are you at Pinecrest Medical Village?"
Saskia, seeing Maggie, also relaxed, "Maggie, you scared me to death."
Maggie apologized, "Saskia, I'm sorry, I was just feeling a bit unwell. The fever has gone down now, so don't worry."
Not wanting to say too much and cause concern, Maggie changed the subject, "Do you have any news about Fiorello?"
"No news," Holden said. "Maggie, I think no news is the best news. If something had really happened to my brother, his body would have surfaced by now. We've searched all the nearby rivers and offered a reward, but there's still no news. I think he's definitely okay."
Maggie looked into the night and said, "Fiorello is definitely still alive. He wouldn't give up. How could he leave us? Katie and Nate are still so young; they haven't even called him 'Dad' yet."
Maggie wouldn't give up searching.
As long as she was alive, she would keep looking.
The three of them returned to the San Diego hotel. When Eleanor saw Maggie had returned, she hugged her and cried, "Maggie, you can't have any more accidents. You scared me to death."
"Sorry, Mom, for making you worry," Maggie comforted. "I'm fine."
Since Fiorello's accident, everyone had been worried.
After so long without finding him, everyone knew the chances were slim, but they still couldn't accept reality.
After comforting Eleanor, Maggie returned to her room, and Arya called her on a video call.
Seeing her children through the video call gave Maggie the strength to keep going.
Arya saw that Maggie had lost weight and looked haggard, feeling very distressed, "Maggie, you need to take care of yourself. The kids at home miss you. Adalia even asked me when you would be back and if there was any news about their dad."
"No," Maggie shook her head, her eyes filled with sadness. Looking at the sleeping baby in the video, she couldn't help but cry.
Seeing Maggie cry, Arya felt sad too, "Maggie, people need to keep living no matter what happens. You have to think about the three kids and how to live, okay?"
Arya was also worried that Maggie wouldn't be able to hold on.
"Mom, I know," Maggie said, her voice tinged with sorrow.
Arya said, "Dulce comes to help every day, so don't worry about the house. The kids are all fine. Adalia doesn't know what happened; I told her you went on a trip and would be back in a few days. Adalia is doing better in school; Ms. Hughes praises her every day. Katie has grown taller and even called me 'Mom' today."
Listening to Arya talk about the three kids at home and thinking about the missing Fiorello, Maggie felt heartbroken.
How could a happy family be without a father?
Maggie knew the kids needed her, and she had to keep going.
From that day on, Maggie's tears were only for herself in the dead of night. She no longer cried in front of others.
After another half month of searching, there was still no news.
Maggie asked Holden to take Eleanor and Joseph back to Cyberland first, while she stayed behind.
William and Brian, whose injuries had mostly healed, also helped with the search.
As time passed, everyone became more and more worried.
The road to Flames Village had been repaired and was now open. The tunnel collapse accident was no longer discussed. Dozens of lives were lost on the road to Flames Village, and as time passed, the incident was gradually forgotten.
Maggie often drove alone to the road where Fiorello had his accident and stayed there all day.
She would sit in the car, silently crying.
She didn't even have the chance to retrieve his body, only able to mournfully look at the road that took his life.
