Chapter 45 Catching a Glimpse of Him Asleep

"Aunt, how are you so familiar with Fiorello's childhood?"

Maggie didn’t hesitate to ask when the doubts crept in.

Caught off guard, Eleanor flinched. Realizing she might have overshared, she offered an awkward chuckle in response. “Well, Fiorello's mom would often talk about him when us women got together. Children are a common topic, and that's how I know so much.”

“Oh,” Maggie responded, finding the explanation reasonable enough.

Seizing the moment, Eleanor playfully nudged Maggie, “You know, you and Fiorello could think about having one of your own. It changes everything. Men become more family-oriented, more responsible.”

Maggie, still sleeping in separate beds from Fiorello, felt that rushing into having children was definitely not in the cards right now.

"Aunt, I know you want the best for us, but when it comes to having kids, it's all about fate," Maggie said.

"Do you still sleep in seperate beds?"Eleanor said, lightly piercing the air with her candidness.

Maggie fell silent, an awkward tension filled the room.

Eleanor took Maggie's hand, speaking earnestly, "Maggie, don’t mind me being nosy, but Fiorello is a good man. You should hold on tight to him. Men from the Flores family are fiercely loyal to their marriages. If you and Fiorello stick together, your future is bound to be blissful. And I won’t acknowledge anyone else but you as Fiorello's wife."

Maggie felt touched by Eleanor's endorsement.

"Aunt, I—" Maggie started to respond but was interrupted by her ringing phone.

She quickly washed and dried her hands before answering the call.

The call was from the HR department of Visionary Futures Group. "Is this Ms. Maggie? This is the HR Department from Visionary Futures Group. Your interview was a success. Please bring your medical report and come into the office as soon as possible to complete the hiring process."

Maggie was so stunned by the news that she needed a moment to confirm the caller was indeed from Visionary Futures Group, after which she expressed her gratitude profusely.

After hanging up, she felt dazed with disbelief.

"Maggie, what’s the matter?" Eleanor asked, curiosity piqued.

"Aunt, I passed the interview! Visionary Futures Group called me to sort out my employment details," Maggie said, patting her cheeks in disbelief. "I really made it. I thought I didn't stand a chance."

She hadn't been hopeful after the way the interviewer had embarrassed her during the interview, but this call was a delightful surprise.

"Really?" Eleanor was thrilled to hear that Maggie was joining the family company. It seemed to her that Maggie definitely held a special place in her son's heart, otherwise, she wouldn't have been offered a position in their company.

Maggie couldn't wait to share the great news with Fiorello and also texted Dulcinea to let her know.

Aside from Maggie herself, everyone knew it was a done deal and was not surprised.

Upon learning that Maggie was going for a medical check-up the next day, Dulcinea got a bit nervous and suggested that she accompany Maggie to the hospital for the check-up.

Fiorello had a social engagement in the evening and sent a message to Maggie, telling her to go ahead and have dinner without waiting for him.

Maggie and Eleanor prepared a table full of dishes, and when she heard that Fiorello wouldn’t be coming back for dinner, she felt a bit let down.

However, Maggie didn’t show it. She knew Fiorello was busy. She and Eleanor had dinner together, and then watched a TV series and chatted until ten at night, when Eleanor finally went next door.

Fiorello didn’t return until eleven that night. When he got home, Maggie was already asleep.

On the coffee table, there was a watermelon with a sticky note from Maggie: "Remember to eat the watermelon, it won’t taste good overnight."

Fiorello pulled off the sticky note, a hint of a smile on his lips.

He had been drinking and was actually too full to eat, but looking at the words and the smiley face on the sticky note, he sat down and ate anyway.

After finishing the watermelon, Fiorello felt bloated and soon a stomachache set in, leading to a bout of diarrhea.

He ran to the bathroom several times that night, feeling almost depleted of energy. Just before dawn, he got up to find some medicine and fell asleep on the living room couch.

The next morning, Maggie stepped out of her room and was quite surprised to see Fiorello sleeping on the couch.

Seeing that Fiorello was still not awake, she tiptoed over. It was her first time seeing this man asleep.

His sculpted, handsome profile had a chiseled coolness to it. Thick eyebrows, a high-bridged nose, and lightly pursed lips - every feature was so strikingly good-looking.

Maggie couldn’t help but want to reach out and touch his nose when suddenly Fiorello's eyes snapped open, and their gazes locked...
