Chapter 646 Peeling Hands
Maggie looked at the well-wishes sent by "Christina" in the Facebook chat box and simply replied with a thank you.
On the other end, Jenny saw the reply and immediately asked, "Maggie, are you free on Saturday? I don't have to work my part-time job this week, so let's grab some coffee."
Maggie replied, "Sorry, I'm busy."
Seeing Maggie's direct refusal, Jenny was very angry.
Jenny actually knew that Maggie had plans on Saturday; it was the day of Maggie's prenatal checkup.
Jenny had been keeping an eye on Maggie, waiting for an opportunity to strike.
Maggie had previously been pregnant with a single baby, which was enough to make her collapse. If something happened to the twins, Maggie would probably go crazy.
The thought of that scene made Jenny feel delighted. Making Maggie's life miserable was incredibly satisfying.
Maggie had competed with her for a man, and this was her punishment.
Meanwhile, Fiorello brought Maggie some hot water for a foot soak, which was beneficial for her.
Maggie enjoyed the comfort of the foot soak and said, "By the way, have you decided on the names for the babies?"
Maggie caressed her large belly, feeling both the hardship and the happiness.
Fiorello, washing Maggie's feet, said, "I've only picked a name for the girl. You can choose the boy's name. The girl will be named Katniss Flores, and her nickname will be Katie."
"Katniss, that's a beautiful name," Maggie said, full of hope for the future. "For the boy, I've picked a name: Theodric Flores. We live in Sunset Hills, so I hope everything will be easy for him. His nickname will be Bubba."
"Alright, whatever you say," Fiorello agreed without any objections. "I'll go with you to your prenatal checkup tomorrow."
As Maggie's due date approached, Fiorello didn't dare to get distracted. He had to focus all his attention on Maggie. Whenever he had time, he would accompany her to the checkups.
He wanted to be the first to know about Maggie's health condition.
They had already chosen the doctor and hospital for Maggie's delivery. To prevent any unexpected situations, Fiorello had arranged everything he could think of.
Dylan would also be there when the time came. With Dylan around, both Fiorello and Maggie felt much more at ease.
Maggie also preferred Fiorello to accompany her to the checkups. With him there, she felt secure and had no psychological burden. She could tell him anything she needed.
It would be completely different if her mother-in-law or her own mother accompanied her.
Eleanor was also very considerate. As long as Fiorello was going, she wouldn't interfere.
She knew that having a husband accompany you was different from having a mother-in-law accompany you.
The next day.
The two of them had breakfast early and went to the hospital for the prenatal checkup.
Maggie lay on the bed as the doctor placed the equipment on her belly, allowing them to fully observe the condition of the fetuses inside.
Fiorello couldn't take his eyes off the image of the fetuses on the screen, his mouth slightly upturned, and his heart softened. "These are my son and daughter."
The two babies even started to playfully fight inside the womb, which was very cute.
Feeling the strong fetal movements, Maggie laughed and asked, "Doctor, can you tell which baby is more active?"
The two babies would compete for nutrients in the womb, and as the pregnancy progressed, they would also compete for space.
The doctor smiled and said, "It seems that the girl is a bit stronger. Look here, this is the girl. Both babies are very healthy, but since they are twins, you need to monitor the fetal movements closely. If there's any abnormality, you must come to the hospital for a checkup immediately. Don't take any chances."
"Alright, thank you, doctor," Fiorello said. "We'll be careful."
After the checkup, Maggie needed to use the restroom. Fiorello could only help her to the door of the ladies' room and wait outside.
"Maggie, if anything happens, just call me," Fiorello said, still worried.
"Okay," Maggie said, holding her belly as she entered the restroom.
After taking care of her needs, she came out and ran into an acquaintance at the sink.
It was Jenny, who had been using the alias Christina.
Jenny knew Maggie would be at this hospital for a checkup today and had been waiting for her.
Feigning surprise, Jenny said, "Maggie, what a coincidence to run into you here. Your belly is so big now; you must be due soon."
Maggie was indeed surprised to run into her after several months.
Maggie replied coolly, "Not yet, it's only six months."
"So, you're having twins? That's why it's so big," Jenny asked, pretending not to know. "I'm really envious."
Maggie nodded. Because of her large belly, it was a bit inconvenient for her to turn on the faucet to wash her hands, and she accidentally knocked over a small brown bottle that Jenny had placed on the sink.
There was water in the sink, and Jenny quickly retrieved the bottle, looking very nervous.
The bottle contained a solution that could cause the skin to peel. Jenny had come to the hospital to "accidentally" run into Maggie but hadn't expected to meet her in the restroom.
She had been planning to change her fake fingerprints, as the old ones were starting to itch.
When the bottle fell into the sink, some of the solution spilled out. As Jenny reached in to retrieve the bottle, the fake fingerprints on her fingertips began to peel off.
"Sorry, what is this? Did it break? I'm really sorry," Maggie apologized, reaching out to check the bottle but inadvertently noticing that Jenny's fingertips seemed to be peeling.
