Chapter 758 The Scheme Falls Through

Melissa agreed verbally, but in her heart, she was planning how to keep Fiorello from leaving.

Melissa's mind worked quickly; to keep Fiorello, she had to start with Desmond.

If something happened to Desmond, Fiorello, being Desmond's son, definitely wouldn't be able to leave.

Melissa made up her mind and discussed it with Desmond while Fiorello went upstairs to shower and change clothes.

Desmond didn't want Fiorello to leave either, so he agreed to Melissa's plan.

Cyberland.

In the hospital.

Imogen slept in the hospital and didn't wake up until noon the next day.

The doctor's examination results for Imogen were out, showing traces of sleeping pills in her blood.

When Francis brought Imogen in, the doctor said she was just asleep and had drunk too much, which he found hard to believe.

Seeing the test results now, he immediately thought of last night's meal.

Francis looked sharply at Wendy, who had stayed at the hospital all night and was feeling anxious.

However, Wendy was afraid Francis would find out about the sleeping pills.

"Wendy, I want to know what happened. Why did my mom take sleeping pills?"

"What?" Wendy played dumb. "Francis, I don't know. How would I know? You should ask Aunt Imogen. She suddenly fainted last night, and it scared me."

Francis's eyes showed disappointment, and his tone grew heavier. "Don't forget what I do for a living, Wendy. If you don't tell the truth, I'll have to open an investigation."

Wendy panicked. "I really don't know."

Even if it killed her, she wouldn't admit it.

Wendy thought to herself, the pills were bought by Elara and administered by Elara; she just knew about it. What did it have to do with her?

Even if Francis investigated, it would only lead to Elara, not her.

Seeing Wendy's stubborn denial, Francis scoffed. "Wendy, you know how I've taken care of you all these years. I've done right by the Holmes family. My mom had one meal at your house and mysteriously fainted, with sleeping pills found in her system, and you say you don't know?"

"Francis, I really don't know," Wendy said anxiously. "Maybe it was my mom. She's been having insomnia lately; she might have made a mistake."

"What kind of mistake?" Francis sneered. "Did she mistake sleeping pills for salt and put them in the food? I'm starting to wonder if anything ever really happened between us. For Edward's sake, I haven't exposed you."

Francis's words made Wendy blush. Some things were almost exposed, and they both knew the truth.

The Holmes family was scheming against Francis.

"Francis, let me explain."

"Wendy, just go. I don't want to see you right now," Francis said, leaving for the hospital room.

He had only taken a sip of the soup last night. Wendy's behavior had been a bit strange, so he had been cautious and spat the soup out when no one was looking, which is why he was fine.

Imogen had woken up, thinking she had just drunk too much. She rubbed her head, feeling groggy. "Francis, how did I fall asleep? I didn't even drink much, just one glass."

"Maybe you were too tired. Let's go home; the doctor said you're fine," Francis didn't tell the truth, worried Imogen would cause a scene.

Imogen didn't think much of it and went home with Francis.

Meanwhile, Maggie spent the morning with the two babies, and William came with the driver to take her to the office.

Brian was still in San Diego looking for Fiorello.

As the car moved, William reported on work and Maggie's schedule for the day.

Maggie suddenly asked, "Did he always start working on the way to the office? Was he always this busy? Did he often skip meals when he was tired?"

Now that she was in Fiorello's position, she could understand his hardships.

William closed the schedule in his hand and said, "Fiorello was indeed very busy. He said, 'With great power comes great responsibility.' Maggie, you've done very well to get familiar with the company in such a short time."

Maggie recalled when she first married Fiorello; he often came home late at night, reeking of alcohol.

Even playing golf with partners was just for work.

As the car moved, Maggie thought of how close they were to Sunset Hills and told the driver, "Charlie, turn left to Sunset Hills."

She wanted to visit Adalia.

Driver Charlie replied, "Yes, Mrs. Miller."
