Chapter 353 Playing Cards with Kimberly
In Cityhomes West, when Fiorello and Maggie got home, Arya was still in the living room waiting, while Adalia had already gone to bed.
As soon as they walked in, Arya asked, "Fiorello, Maggie, what happened?"
Maggie replied, "Mom, everything's fine. It's late, why aren't you asleep?"
"I couldn't sleep because you both left the dinner party so abruptly," Arya said.
Maggie gave Fiorello a look, signaling him to go to their room while she talked to Arya.
Fiorello got the hint and headed to the children's room to check on Adalia.
Maggie and Arya went to the guest bedroom. Arya lowered her voice, "Maggie, tell me the truth, what happened?"
"My infertility and premarital pregnancy were found out by the Flores family. Kimberly was upset, but it's all fine now," Maggie said briefly. "It's better they know now."
"What was Fiorello's parents' reaction?" Arya asked, worried. "What did they say?"
"They didn't say much, probably respecting Fiorello's opinion," Maggie said. "Now that Fiorello is on my side, Kimberly can't do much. But I need to find a way to get Kimberly to accept me."
"Older people have traditional views. It's normal for Fiorello's grandmother to be upset. Anyone would feel uncomfortable," Arya said, understandingly.
"Yeah, it's human nature." Maggie smiled. "So I need to cherish this marriage even more."
Maggie now knew exactly what she needed to do. 'I need to get Kimberly to accept me, take care of my health, and prepare for IVF.'
In the children's room, Adalia had kicked off her blanket while sleeping, and when Fiorello went in to check, the blanket was off to the side again.
Fiorello covered Adalia with the blanket and sat by the bed, watching her.
Sleeping Adalia looked very cute, and Fiorello couldn't help but smile.
At that moment, Adalia suddenly turned over and groggily sat up. "Daddy."
Adalia rubbed her sleepy eyes, looking especially adorable.
Fiorello reached out. "Daddy's here to hold you."
Adalia, not fully awake, instinctively reached out to be held.
Fiorello held Adalia in his arms and gently asked, "Did Daddy wake you up?"
Adalia shook her head, slowly waking up completely and opening her eyes.
Just woken up, Adalia looked very cute.
"Daddy, did you and Mommy have a fight?" Adalia asked, thinking with a child's logic.
"Daddy and Mommy will never fight," Fiorello promised with a smile.
Even though Adalia wasn't his biological daughter, Fiorello felt an unexpected closeness to her. He couldn't help but want to give her the best.
Adalia was still a bit sleepy. After getting his assurance, she closed her eyes again and nestled in Fiorello's arms, falling back asleep.
Fiorello couldn't bear to put her down. After a while, Maggie gently pushed the door open and whispered, "Is Adalia asleep?"
"Yeah," Fiorello said, putting Adalia back in bed. "She's so well-behaved, never causes any trouble."
"Most kids her age sleep with their parents, but Adalia sleeps alone without fear or fuss," Maggie said, sitting down and gently stroking Adalia's hand. "I heard that when Adalia was with Susan, she slept in the living room or on the balcony, without even a cardboard to lie on."
Adalia had lived in extreme poverty at Susan's place.
Fiorello and Maggie had seen how poorly Adalia had lived before, which made them even more compassionate towards her.
Fiorello said, "The new house is ready to move into anytime. My concern is that Adalia has just adjusted to her preschool, and changing environments might be hard for her."
As a kid who had been through some really rough times, Adalia was so close to autism once.
Now that she was a bit more cheerful, Fiorello worried that a new environment might unsettle her.
Maggie thought for a moment and said, "Then let's wait a bit. We'll find a new school first, and on the weekends, we can take Adalia there to play and get used to it gradually. That might be better."
"Okay, we'll do that."
As Fiorello finished speaking, he saw Maggie yawning. "Let's go to bed too."
"Alright," Maggie said, genuinely sleepy.
Back in their room, Maggie fell asleep as soon as she lay down.
The next day, Maggie, as usual, took Adalia to school, then went to the office to handle her work, and called Dulce to prevent her from worrying.
She had left abruptly last night, and Dulce was surely concerned.
After finishing everything, Maggie called Holden. "Did you get everything done?"
Holden said, "Maggie, everything is ready. Come quickly, I've sent you the address, Cloud Pavilion."
"Okay."
Maggie hung up and drove to the address Holden had given her.
At Cloud Pavilion, Kimberly and two other elderly ladies were sitting in the game room, waiting. After breakfast, Holden had coaxed them into playing cards.
Kimberly couldn't wait any longer and asked, "Holden, we're still one person short. Where's the person you called?"
"Grandma, they'll be here soon," Holden said with a smile. "Don't worry, have some water and chat with Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Turner."
