Chapter 411 The Stubborn Kimberly
Eleanor drove Fiorello to the hospital, then took a cab back to the Flores Mansion to prep dinner.
On the way, she tried calling Joseph, but no answer.
"What's Joseph up to, being all mysterious and not picking up?" she muttered.
Joseph had always treated her well, except when Kimberly stirred up trouble. He'd avoid dealing with it.
Other than that, he was a great husband, and Eleanor never suspected he'd cheat.
Since she couldn't reach him, she stopped trying.
When she got home, she saw Kimberly on the phone, catching the words "private detective."
"Mom, who are you calling?" Eleanor asked.
Kimberly hung up quickly and gave Eleanor her usual stern look. "None of your business."
Why was Kimberly getting angrier? Eleanor wondered but didn't argue. Heading to the kitchen, she said, "Mom, I'm making roast lamb chops tonight. Want anything else?"
Kimberly snapped, "I'm too old for lamb chops. You're doing this on purpose."
"Fiorello's coming back for dinner," Eleanor added.
Kimberly's tone changed. "Fiorello likes lamb chops. Go ahead."
Eleanor smiled; Kimberly was like a child.
She put on an apron, took out the lamb chops, and started marinating them. Kimberly came over again. "Is that vixen coming back?"
Eleanor knew she meant Maggie. "No, Maggie's at the hospital with Adalia. Please don't talk like that in front of Fiorello. It'll upset him."
"If Maggie can be a vixen, I can say it," Kimberly grumbled. "Eleanor, look at you as a mother-in-law. Maggie brought back an illegitimate child, and you still defend her. From the day you entered this house, I knew you couldn't handle being the hostess. You don't have the aura, and you can't even keep a vixen in check."
Eleanor had heard it all before.
She kept marinating the lamb chops, ignoring Kimberly. Whatever she said, Eleanor pretended not to hear.
Eleanor also made lamb soup, planning to take it to the hospital for Maggie when Fiorello returned.
Kimberly, bored, went to watch TV and called Jenny.
When Eleanor passed through the living room and heard Kimberly talking to Jenny, she got worried.
Jenny had ulterior motives. Half of Kimberly's animosity towards Maggie was because of Jenny.
After the call, Eleanor couldn't help but say, "Mom, you should stop talking to Jenny. She's not pure-hearted; she's scheming."
Kimberly snapped, "Jenny's scheming? What about Maggie? Eleanor, are you blind? Can't you see who's the vixen and who's the kind-hearted girl? Jenny just likes Fiorello. How is that not pure? Maggie has an illegitimate child, and she's pure?"
Eleanor argued, "Mom, why do you always bring it back to Maggie? It's not the same. Isn't it Jenny who's been badmouthing Maggie to you, making you hate her and causing chaos?"
Kimberly retorted, "Well, Jenny's not wrong. If Maggie hadn't done those things, no one would have anything to say about her."
