Chapter 471 Exonerated by Love

Benjamin and Holden hopped into the car, and Holden immediately set the GPS for the reservoir.

Seeing the destination, Benjamin was taken aback. "Fiorello's not seriously thinking about jumping in the water, is he?"

"Don't be ridiculous, Fiorello would never do that," Holden said, speeding up. "Maggie's at the police station; there's no way he'd kill himself. Whenever Fiorello's in a tough spot, he heads to the reservoir. With everything that's happened lately, he's gotta be feeling pretty low."

Benjamin sighed, "Yeah, anyone would be. Now that Mrs. Flores is gone, could Fiorello really be thinking about making Maggie pay with her life?"

This was like giving Fiorello the hardest problem in the world, even tougher than dealing with in-laws.

Holden shook his head. "I don't know."

Benjamin asked, "Holden, what do you think?"

Holden just shook his head again. "I really don't know. This is an impossible situation."

Benjamin nodded. "Holden, deep down, you probably don't want anything to happen to Maggie. Objectively speaking, Mrs. Flores is dead, Maggie turned herself in, and she confessed. To get the lightest sentence, the Flores family would need to issue a letter of forgiveness. Even then, Maggie might still get ten or twenty years."

Holden stared ahead, his mind a bit blank. "I don't know what's happened to the Flores family. Everything was fine before, but ever since Grandma came back from the countryside, she's been like a different person. She couldn't stand Maggie and insisted Fiorello break up with her. I heard she even tried to drug Fiorello to get him together with Jenny. I never expected Grandma to go after Maggie, but I did think Maggie might retaliate. I think Fiorello saw this coming too."

Benjamin was stunned. "Mrs. Flores tried to drug Fiorello? Is she nuts?"

Holden sneered. "No one in the Flores family isn't crazy now. My dad is clamoring to sue Maggie, and Fiorello warned him at the police station not to touch her. The Flores family is completely in chaos; everyone has lost their minds."

Benjamin reminded, "The Flores family has a lot going on right now, Holden. Be careful not to let any illegitimate children take advantage."

Holden scoffed, "Gregory is no match for Fiorello. Last time, when the Crystal Peaks factory burned down and the goods were destroyed, Gregory tried to intercept but got tricked by Fiorello. Although Visionary Futures Group has suffered some losses, it isn't too bad. Gregory ended up bearing two-thirds of the risk."

Benjamin admired. "No one can outsmart Fiorello."

As they talked, the car reached the suburban reservoir. From a distance, they saw a figure standing by the water, gazing out.

Holden quickly parked the car, and the two of them got out and ran towards Fiorello.

Fiorello was only wearing a thin wool sweater, standing against the wind. His hair was blown into disarray by the cold wind. Seeing that Fiorello was okay, Holden and Benjamin relaxed and slowed their pace as they walked over.

They stood on either side of Fiorello, ready to pull him back if he had any suicidal thoughts.

Fiorello didn't even glance at them, his expression cold as he looked into the distance.

"Fiorello," Holden called out, looking at him. "The Flores are at home waiting to punish Maggie. They want you to come up with a resolution and prosecute Maggie."

Fiorello had anticipated this outcome. He didn't speak, and Benjamin patted him on the shoulder, saying, "I understand your difficulty, Fiorello. No matter what decision you make, as your friend, I support you."

As the head of the Flores family, Fiorello had to provide a solution for the family.

When Fiorello took over Visionary Futures, some family members were dissatisfied. Over the years, some had secretly opposed him. Now that they had this opportunity, they would certainly make things difficult for Fiorello.

If Fiorello couldn't come up with a satisfactory solution, he would lose credibility and find it hard to lead.

Fiorello took a step forward, his eyebrows furrowing coldly, and said in a pained voice, "Maggie had severe depression a few years ago, to the point where it affected her mentally. The loss of her kid this time caused a relapse. When she committed the crime, she wasn't in control of herself. In an hour, the psychiatric hospital will issue a diagnosis confirming Maggie's mental illness."

Hearing this, Holden and Benjamin were incredulous. They looked at each other in shock.

What shocked them wasn't that Maggie had depression, but Fiorello's decision.
