Chapter 282 Don’t Be Soft-hearted

"No, I don’t," Maggie replied as she sat beside her. "I’m sorry. I had no idea it was this serious."

Otherwise, she wouldn't have brought the police.

"The police came at the right time. With things getting this bad with the Anderson family, the bigger the mess, the better. When we go to court for the divorce, I'll have evidence."

Maggie asked, "What exactly happened tonight?"

Isabella looked up at the night sky and said bitterly, "I misjudged people. I never thought James and his family could be so shameless. They tricked me into coming here to sign the divorce papers, drugged me, locked me in a room, and called my parents over, thinking that family scandals shouldn't be aired in public. They wanted to use this to force me to back down and give them the house."

"And what about Brandon?" Maggie was still shaken by seeing Isabella in such a compromising situation.

"We met at the gym before. He said he was dropping by to give me something," Isabella's voice broke as she continued, "He used to be so considerate and nice at the gym. I never thought he’d get tangled up with James."

Isabella had become very vulnerable due to the marital crisis, making her an easy target for others to take advantage of.

A handsome man showing concern can easily create emotional dependency.

Isabella did rely on that man a bit, but she never expected to be taken advantage of.

Isabella could have accused the man of rape, but doing so would complicate things further. With the Anderson family stirring things up, a rape charge wouldn't hold up in court.

Moreover, Isabella felt a bit soft-hearted towards the man. She had liked him before, so she decided to let it go in a muddled way.

After hearing everything, Maggie was at a loss for words.

Maggie asked, "Are you planning to fight James to the end?"

"Yes." Isabella was very resolute on this point. "I will never compromise."

Maggie pursed her lips and said, "I suggest you accuse that man of rape. If James were involved, it would be a conspiracy. Winning this case would also help with the divorce."

Isabella suddenly broke down, covering her face with her hands. "Maggie, I don't know what to do."

Her mind was a mess, and she felt helpless.

After eight years of being a full-time housewife, she had narrowed her social circle. She didn't have any true friends and usually mingled in some social circles. Now that everyone knew about her marital crisis, they avoided her to avoid trouble.

Maggie sighed. In the end, Isabella couldn't bring herself to accuse the man. Her mind wasn't clear yet.

Everyone has moments of confusion, especially women.

From an outsider’s perspective, Maggie could see the situation clearly and knew the best course of action.

But Isabella, being in the middle of it, was somewhat entangled by emotions.

Brandon must have given her a lot of warmth during her lowest moments.

Because of this, Isabella felt even more heartbroken.

Her husband betrayed her, and now even Brandon betrayed her. Isabella felt like a failure.

She cried and asked Maggie, "Am I really that detestable? Why is every man scheming against me? Is it so hard to find a sincere heart? I'm just a woman, a woman who wants to be cherished by a man."

Maggie gently patted Isabella's back and comforted her, saying, "Everything will pass. After the storm, the sun will shine again. Once you get through this low point, you'll find your destiny. Isabella, you're already at rock bottom. No matter how bad it gets, it can't get worse. You'll bounce back."

"Bounce back!"

Isabella repeated the words, staring blankly at the road as if she couldn't see any hope for the future.

Maggie was worried that Isabella might do something rash. With Laura's previous incident as a warning, she didn't dare let Isabella go back alone and brought her to the Cityhomes West apartment.

Arya had gone to London, so there was a vacant room. Maggie let Isabella stay in the guest room.

Adalia went to stay at the neighboring house with Eleanor.

Just as Maggie settled Isabella in, Fiorello returned and said, "You're still up this late? Didn't you say not to wait for me?"

Fiorello changed his shoes and habitually wrapped his arm around Maggie's waist, kissing her.

"Behave yourself."

Before Maggie could remind Fiorello that there was someone else in the house, the guest room door clicked open, and Isabella stood at the doorway.
