Chapter 751 Exposing the True Face of the Holmes Family
Wendy's strong reaction wasn't just because Francis's resignation was so sudden, but because if Francis resigned, her dream of becoming the director's wife would be shattered.
Francis said calmly, "I've been working for so many years, I want to take a break."
"Is it because of Dulce?" Wendy stared at Francis, pressing him, "Is it because of her? You gave up your job for her, Francis, you're crazy."
Wendy wouldn't think it was her fault. If she hadn't pushed him so hard, how could Francis have chosen to resign?
Compared to Wendy's agitation, Francis remained calm from start to finish, saying, "This is my business, Wendy. You should go back first. I still have work to hand over to my colleagues. I'll definitely be there tonight."
Francis was disgusted by Wendy's behavior. He also knew Wendy was deliberately using Brianna as an excuse, but that was his good friend's daughter, and it was Brianna's birthday wish, so he had to go.
Of course, he had other matters to attend to at the Holmes family.
There were some things he needed to clarify with the Holmes family.
After saying this, Francis picked up the documents on the table and left. Wendy stood there alone, helpless and frustrated, with no outlet for her anger.
Wendy wouldn't allow Francis to resign.
If Francis lost this job, how would he support her and their daughter? How would they solve the problem of her parents' retirement? How would she repay her loans?
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Wendy returned home with a heavy heart. Elara asked her, "Is Francis coming over for dinner tonight?"
"Yes," Wendy snapped back to reality, "He promised to come."
"Then you should go buy some groceries and make something delicious tonight. If you want a man to like you, improving your cooking skills is a great way," Elara suggested with a smile.
For the Holmes family, there was no sense of propriety or shame. Their goal was to bind Francis to this family.
Wendy hesitated and said, "Mom, Francis just said he wants to resign."
"What?" Elara was shocked, "Why would he resign out of the blue? Wasn't he supposed to get a promotion later this year?"
"He must be doing it for that woman, giving up such a good job. He just doesn't want to be responsible for me," Wendy said angrily, "He'll do anything to get rid of me."
Wendy felt a growing resentment in her heart.
Unrequited love easily turned into resentment.
Elara's face changed upon hearing this. She angrily threw the towel in her hand onto the table and said, "Does he really think we're easy to bully? Wendy, don't worry. As long as Francis comes tonight, he won't get away so easily. I'll go out and buy some things. You get the food ready."
As Elara was leaving, she ran into Neil. After a brief discussion, they both left sneakily.
Wendy stayed home to cook and went to pick up her daughter from school at 4:30.
Francis was busy at the office all afternoon. He went home to change clothes and told Imogen, "Mom, I won't be home for dinner tonight."
Imogen asked, "Why, do you have another assignment?"
"It's Brianna's birthday today, and they invited me for dinner."
Upon hearing it was the Holmes family, Imogen immediately said, "Don't go. Just say you're busy."
"I already promised," Francis said, "It's a good opportunity to settle things."
Imogen understood and said, "Wait, I'll change clothes and go with you."
Imogen was worried her son would be taken advantage of.
Francis said, "Mom."
Francis wanted to persuade Imogen not to go, but she interrupted, "I must go with you. Who knows what dirty tricks the Holmes family might have up their sleeves? Don't forget what happened last time when you got drunk with Wendy. I'm afraid they'll try to trap you again. Their intentions are not simple."
In the past, Francis would have argued. He always felt guilty towards the Holmes family, so no matter what they did or asked of him, he viewed them through rose-colored glasses, thinking they weren't bad.
But now, Francis couldn't say those words anymore. After the Holmes family pressured him to marry Wendy, he saw them in a new light.
Imogen changed her clothes, and mother and son went to the Holmes family together. On the way, out of courtesy, they bought a cake and a Barbie doll as a birthday gift for Brianna.
At the Holmes family's door, Francis rang the doorbell, and Elara opened the door.
Elara smiled and said, "Francis is here."
Before she could finish her sentence, she saw Imogen standing beside him, and her smile froze.
