Chapter 173 Excitement of Pregnancy
Maggie, also known as Mrs. Flores of the Visionary Futures Group, was greeted with warmth by Jones, who dared not show any hint of negligence. "Mr. Bary, is there something you require of me?" Maggie asked, her voice laced with surprise. Jones offered her a comforting smile. "Don't be overly anxious, Maggie," he began. "Mrs. Mitchell really likes your designs, and your performance within the company has been nothing short of exemplary. You are the talent we need, and so we've decided to waive the remainder of your internship. As of today, you are officially an employee of the company, and your salary will be adjusted accordingly."Maggie's heart swelled with joy and gratitude. "Thank you for the recognition, Mr. Bary," she responded, her voice barely above a whisper. She offered Jones a deep bow, a gesture that startled him. "Maggie, please, there's no need for that!" he protested, his voice laced with discomfort. Maggie, her excitement palpable, quickly reassured him. "Mr. Bary, I promise to work diligently and not let the company down.""I have faith in you," Jones replied, a playful note creeping into his voice. "Even if you were to bankrupt the company, as long as you're content, that's all that matters.""Huh?" Maggie's brows furrowed in confusion. Jones quickly clarified, "I'm only kidding, Maggie. With your abilities, our company is sure to flourish. We are but a small subsidiary under Visionary Futures Group. Profit isn't our primary concern, but rather the happiness of our employees, including you. After all, work is merely a part of life.""Mr. Bary, you're the first boss I've encountered who is so laid-back," Maggie admitted, a hint of admiration in her voice. Jones chuckled. "You flatter me, Maggie. With Selena's departure, our design department is in need of a new leader. Would you consider the role of Chief Designer? If you feel up to the task, the position is yours.""The Chief position?" Maggie's eyes widened in surprise, a mixture of honor and nervousness washing over her. "Just how many levels is this promotion? Mr. Bary, are you joking?"Jones shook his head, his expression serious. "I assure you, I'm not. The position of Chief Designer is reserved for those with exceptional capabilities. In our design department, aside from you and Emily, we have a new designer, and the rest have been with us for at least five years. As a jewelry designer, if you haven't made significant progress or achieved anything noteworthy within five years, it's challenging to shoulder such responsibility."Maggie found Jones's analysis to be reasonable."But why me?" she asked. "I've only just graduated from high school, I've been here for a short time, and Emily seems more capable. She appears to be a more suitable choice."Jones offered Maggie a reassuring smile. "Don't you believe in yourself? Emily hails from the Roberts family. She's destined to leave us eventually. My company isn't a place for big shots like her. Maggie, take some time to consider it. I have faith in you. If you have any concerns, feel free to voice them."Maggie voiced her concern candidly. "I do have one. I'm a newcomer who has just arrived and is being promoted directly to Chief Designer. I'm worried I may not be able to earn everyone's trust."Jones countered, "If you don't seize the opportunity to prove yourself, how can you expect them to trust you? Maggie, give it a shot. The Chief Designer's salary is ten times that of a regular designer, and there's a year-end bonus, various benefits, and commissions on each piece of jewelry..."Jones's words were tempting, and Maggie, who was in need of money, found herself swayed. Maggie made her decision. "I'll do it," she declared. Upon hearing her words, Jones beamed. "I'll have the HR department send out a notice shortly. I look forward to seeing your performance."Maggie hesitated for a moment before voicing another concern. "Mr. Bary, I have one small worry."Jones gestured for her to continue. "Please, go ahead.""I'm already married, and I may want to start a family at any time. If I were to become pregnant, would it affect the company?"After all, many big companies didn't like to support idle people. If she just took on the role of Chief Designer and then got pregnant the next moment, and then went on maternity leave, the company would definitely not be pleased.
Jones's gaze shifted to Maggie's abdomen, his eyes lighting up with excitement. "Are you expecting?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.Maggie was taken aback by his reaction. She was indeed pregnant, but why was Jones so excited about it?
