Chapter 145 Seniors Are a Treasure
Arya was off today and didn't have to go to work.
When Arya received a call from Maggie, she quickly packed up her things and hailed a taxi, anxious not to delay Maggie and Fiorello from their own workday.Upon arrival, Maggie took Arya aside and briefed her on the situation. "Mom," she said, "Adalia is a bit introverted, so please take care of her."Arya nodded, reassuring her daughter. "Alright, don't worry. You and Fiorello go to work, I'll stay home and look after Adalia." She paused, glancing around the room, "Where is Adalia?"Maggie gestured towards the living room where Adalia sat quietly on the sofa. "Mom, thank you for taking care of her. I'll come back early after work."Arya could only see Adalia's downcast face from her vantage point. She offered a comforting smile. "Don't worry, it's getting late, you should head out soon."Maggie approached Adalia once more, instructing her to listen to Arya, before leaving with Fiorello.
Despite her assurances, Maggie couldn't shake her worry for the introverted Adalia. The previous night, William had parked the Chevrolet in the underground parking lot. Now, Fiorello and Maggie made their way there to begin their commute. Once settled in the car, Maggie said, "We all have to work, we can't stay home with Adalia every day. In the future, when we have a baby, there will be challenges in raising them. Luckily, we have my mom."Maggie had been hesitant to have a child before, first because she didn't have feelings for Fiorello, and later because of housing and financial issues. Now that they had a house, their combined salaries could support them in Cyberland, but if they were to have a child, they might need more help in taking care of the child. These were issues most families would encounter.Maggie definitely didn't want to be a full-time housewife, relying solely on Fiorello to earn a living would be too hard. She wanted to work and help share the burden.
Fiorello, driving, chuckled, "Seniors are a treasure. In the future, when we have a baby, Aunt Eleanor can also help out. We won't have to worry about these things."Eleanor had long been looking forward to having grandchildren, and if Maggie really had a child, she would be overjoyed. With seven or eight nannies at home, they could hire a childcare nanny later on, and they would have enough help.Maggie didn't know about these plans, so naturally she had her concerns. She smiled, "Having an elderly person at home to help with the children would make it easier for the young people, but it's still too early for all this."The two of them had been trying to conceive, but to no avail. Fiorello held Maggie's hand and said, "Let things take their course.""Mm," Maggie said, "By the way, it's almost the weekend, let's talk to Susan about Adalia's situation and get it sorted out, so Adalia can go to school sooner."When it came to sending Adalia to school, Maggie felt a bit anxious again, "Oh, by the way, Isabella mentioned that sending a child to kindergarten for a year costs tens of thousands of dollars, even the cheaper ones cost thousands of dollars. You have a house, so we can enroll her in a public kindergarten, which should be cheaper. If we adopt Adalia, we'll have to budget carefully. It's not easy to find a good school now."Fiorello smiled. "These are not problems at all, don't worry too much. Leave it to me, I know the principal of the kindergarten, we can arrange a meeting later."Fiorello wanted to send Adalia to school, and that was simple. With just a word from Fiorello, Adalia would be warmly welcomed at the elite kindergartens in Cyberland.Meanwhile, Arya tried to interact with Adalia. She approached Adalia with a loving smile and asked, "Adalia, do you want to go out and play with me? I will take you to the amusement park, okay?"Recalling Maggie's promise of an amusement park visit, Adalia lifted her head and nodded obediently.
However, in that moment when Adalia lifted her head, Arya saw Adalia's face clearly and was shocked.
