Chapter 703 Sending Melissa Away
Eleanor saw her like this and felt even more sympathetic. "Quick, try it on."
Melissa didn't refuse and put on the pearl necklace with a smile. This string of pearls wasn't cheap; each one was large, round, and very lustrous.
The white pearls suited Melissa's temperament well. She had a beautiful neck, and the necklace made her look even better.
Melissa said happily, "It looks great, thank you. I'm really touched that you gave me such an expensive gift."
"It's not expensive, it's nothing." Eleanor said with a smile, "You look good wearing it. Actually, I'm here to apologize on behalf of Maggie. We felt bad making you stay at the hotel, and we didn't want to inconvenience you. Maggie's been a bit emotional since having the baby, so don't take it to heart."
"Eleanor, I won't be mad at Maggie, it's fine," Melissa said understandingly. "It's not really appropriate for an unmarried person like me to stay at my sister and brother-in-law's house. Plus, my mom and Arya don't get along well, so I understand Maggie's feelings."
Eleanor, feeling relieved, held Melissa's hand and said, "You're so considerate. If only Maggie were half as understanding as you."
Melissa gave a shy smile, perfectly embodying her well-behaved nature.
Eleanor then asked, "Melissa, when are you going home?"
Seeing how much Eleanor liked her, Melissa said, "My dad misses Maggie and dotes on his grandson, so he doesn't want to leave. We might stay a few more days, and then I'll go back with him."
Melissa didn't want to leave herself, so she made it seem like it was because of Mark.
"I see," Eleanor said hesitantly. "I was planning to visit your place tomorrow. I've already booked the flight and was hoping you could be my guide. I haven't been there in years and I'm not familiar with the area anymore."
Hearing that Eleanor wanted to visit, Melissa immediately said, "Eleanor, I can accompany you. What time is your flight tomorrow? I'll book mine now and go back with you. My dad won't mind."
"Tomorrow at 9:20 AM," Eleanor said with a smile. "Melissa, you're so kind. It's settled then, see you at the airport tomorrow morning?"
"No problem," Melissa said, eager to strengthen her relationship with Eleanor, which would be very beneficial for her.
The connections Eleanor could provide were ten times better than those she had before.
After making the arrangements, Eleanor didn't stay long and left.
The driver was waiting at the hotel entrance.
Once in the car, the driver asked, "Eleanor, are we heading back to Sunset Hills, or?"
"Back to Sunset Hills," Eleanor said, glancing at the two exquisite boxes on the car seat. "I'll take these back for Maggie; she should like them."
Eleanor had prepared gifts not only for Melissa but also for Maggie.
After all, Maggie was her daughter-in-law and truly part of the family, so Eleanor wouldn't neglect her.
Eleanor had prepared a pearl necklace for Maggie as well, but it was even better than Melissa's, featuring rare pink pearls, each one very round and beautiful.
Compared to the pink pearls, the white ones seemed like mere rejects.
The driver headed towards Sunset Hills, and Eleanor made a phone call. "Book me a flight to London for 9:20 AM tomorrow."
Eleanor hadn't booked the flight in advance; it was a spur-of-the-moment decision.
Back at Sunset Hills, Eleanor gave the pearl necklace and a custom skincare set to Maggie, saying, "I'm going back with Melissa tomorrow. I'll take her with me."
Maggie was puzzled. "Mom, you're going with Melissa?"
"If I didn't say that, she wouldn't want to leave. Staying here would make you unhappy and might cause trouble. So I came up with this plan to get her to leave early," Eleanor said. "I haven't been back in years, so it's a good opportunity to visit."
