Chapter 721 The Whole Family Relies on Francis

Imogen's retort left Wendy speechless and trembling with anger.

She thought that with Imogen's arrival, she could help finalize their marriage, but instead, she was humiliated.

Wendy tried to steady her emotions and spoke firmly, "Imogen, Francis slept with me, so he has to take responsibility. Edward saved his life, so he also has to be responsible for my daughter and my in-laws. It's late, I won't bother you anymore, I'm leaving."

After saying this, Wendy turned and walked towards the elevator.

Imogen shouted at Wendy's back, "Shameless woman."

Wendy heard this and tears of anger streamed down her face.

The elevator arrived, and Wendy quickly stepped in. Even if she cried, no one would see.

Imogen slammed the door shut. Inside, Francis heard the loud noise and came out to ask, "Mom, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, just a cat making noise. I chased it away," Imogen said, indirectly comparing Wendy to a cat. "Francis, go back to your room and rest. Focus on getting better. Forget about work for now. Your dad insisted that I stay until you're fully recovered and we've found a daughter-in-law for the Jackson family before I can go back."

Francis walked to the water dispenser to get a drink. "Mom, I'm fine, don't worry. You should go back in a few days. I'll be busy and won't have time to keep you company, and you'll be bored alone."

"If I go back, won't Wendy have a chance to cling to you?" Imogen said with a stern face. "Don't think I can't see through her intentions. The Holmes family wants to latch onto you, but it's not going to happen. You've helped them for so many years; they should be satisfied by now."

What mother wouldn't feel for her son?

Seeing her son entangled with such a shameless family, of course, she was angry.

Francis was slightly stunned, realizing his mother knew everything.

Imogen remembered something and asked, "Last time you told me you had a girlfriend. Be honest, is it the girl with long hair on your Instagram?"

Francis had posted a silhouette photo of Dulce on his Instagram.

After a moment of silence, Francis said, "We broke up."

Imogen saw through him immediately, "Because of Wendy, right?"

Francis laughed, "Mom, you should work at the bureau."

Her observation and analytical skills were impressive.

Imogen said, "I've been through this. She just told me."

"She told me you two slept together and that you need to take responsibility. Francis, how could you be so indiscriminate? What kind of people are the Holmes family? They're just shameless. Once they latch onto you, they won't let go. They say they don't need you to take responsibility, but they keep clinging to you."

Imogen was very distressed.

Francis frowned, "I was drunk that day. I don't even know how we ended up in the same bed."

Francis briefly recounted what happened that day.

"You were confused, but Wendy wasn't. Her in-laws weren't either. They tricked you into going over and got you drunk," Imogen said angrily. "She wants to marry into the Jackson family? No way. Marrying her would be a disaster."

Neil and Elara had no pension, were often sick, and their expenses increased with age. Wendy's daughter also needed money for school.

Wendy was plain-looking, divorced with a child, and finding a good match in Cyberland was tough.

Francis had become the Holmes family's lifeline in Cyberland.

Usually, Wendy wouldn't directly ask Francis for money, but she would hint at their difficult situation when they were short on cash, using Neil, Elara, or her daughter Brianna as excuses.

Over the years, the whole family had relied on Francis to survive in the city. Otherwise, Wendy's salary wouldn't be enough.

Imogen saw all this clearly, but Francis felt indebted to Edward and was always willing to help the Holmes family.

Wendy returned home late.

Elara was waiting in the living room. Seeing her return, she asked, "Still no agreement? Didn't Francis's mom come? What did she say?"

Wendy said, "I spoke directly to his mom. She looks down on me and won't let me marry into the Jackson family." Wendy walked over and sat down. "Mom, what do we do next?"

Elara's eyes darkened upon hearing that the Jackson family didn't want to take responsibility. "That's not up to them. Francis must support our family for life. If he doesn't marry you, Neil and I will go to the bureau and cry. We've done it before, and we'll do it again."
