Chapter 716 Marrying a Good Man
"Mrs. Fiores!"
Oscar stuttered, his face turning pale with fear. He slapped himself, "I didn't recognize you, it's Mrs. Fiores. My apologies."
David had learned his lesson; he hadn't forgotten the time he got his ribs broken.
Every circle was the same, bullying the weak and fearing the strong.
Fiorello wasn't just the richest man; his social status and methods made it clear that no one dared to mess with Fiorello's wife.
Everyone knew Fiorello was a man who doted on his wife. Only someone with a death wish would mess with Maggie.
Sharon recognized Maggie, clinging to her pants leg like she had found hope, "Mrs. Fiores, help me, please help me."
If Maggie didn't help, Oscar would beat Sharon to death.
Seeing Sharon covered in injuries, Maggie felt deep sympathy. She said to Oscar, "I'm taking this person with me. Any objections?"
Oscar grinned, "No objections, whatever Mrs. Fiores says goes."
Maggie didn't want to make a big scene. If this hit the news, a wealthy wife showing up at a club would surely spark suspicion.
Maggie took Sharon to the hospital to treat her wounds.
The hospital recommended an overnight stay for observation, but Sharon insisted on going home.
Poor people can't afford to get sick. An overnight stay with medication would cost a lot of money. With these injuries, she could just rest at home for a few days and save a few thousand dollars. The more she saved, the sooner she could leave this line of work.
Maggie saw through Sharon's thoughts. Thinking of Laura's fate, she said, "Nothing is more important than your health. You can always earn more money. I'll cover your medical and hospital bills. Just rest well."
Sharon was very grateful, "Thank you."
Seeing Sharon's bruised and swollen face, Maggie felt a pang of sadness, "Sharon is your stage name, right? What's your real name?"
Sharon answered honestly, "Lucy Walker."
Maggie asked, "Do you plan to keep doing this forever? Have you thought about doing something else?"
"What else can I do? Besides this, I don't know how to do anything else," Lucy said. "I don't have an education, and I can't do hard labor. I'm used to this work and don't know what else I could do. Once I've saved enough money, I'll go back to my hometown, find a good man to marry, buy a house in our county, and maybe open a coffee shop, clothing store, or nail salon like some of the other girls."
She was used to making quick and easy money and couldn't bear to do anything else.
Maggie wanted to say, "Does a good man owe you anything?"
From Lucy's mindset, Maggie could tell their views were different.
Maggie asked, "How much money is enough?"
She was certain that even if Lucy saved a million dollars, she wouldn't stop.
Lucy had already given up her dignity. Even if she left Cyberland and returned to her hometown, she wouldn't settle down. She couldn't resist external temptations.
Maggie was right. Lucy had initially thought about saving $500,000 to buy a house in her hometown. But once she had saved that, she felt she needed more money to live on and aimed for a million dollars.
But her expenses were high, and she never saved enough. Her dreams were just idle thoughts. When it came time to return home, she couldn't bear to leave the city's glamour.
Lucy smiled indifferently, "I know you look down on me, but not everyone is as lucky as you. You worked at the club and still found a good husband, married into a wealthy family, have a loving husband, and three kids. I also hope to meet my husband someday and live a good life. Wanting a good life isn't a crime."
Not many people knew about Maggie's part-time job at the club. Lucy must have heard it from Laura.
Maggie didn't deny it and said, "As long as you don't give up on yourself, you'll find happiness. Rest well, I have to go."
With different views, there was no point in continuing the conversation.
She helped Lucy for the sake of the late Laura.
Lucy called out to Maggie, "Mrs. Fiores, wait."
