Chapter 730 Melissa's Compassion
If the car entered the tunnel, it would be a case of slim chances of survival.
If it were just buried by a landslide, the chances of survival would be higher.
Maggie's legs felt weak, and Saskia supported her: "Maggie, hold on, let's keep looking."
Maggie's face was pale, without a trace of blood, and her body was trembling uncontrollably.
Maggie had been holding on all the way, searching the hospital with Saskia to see if Fiorello had been brought in among the injured.
There was no one at the hospital, and Maggie insisted on driving to the landslide site. She wouldn't be at ease until she found Fiorello.
The sky was dark, and it was pouring rain. The road to Flames Village was blocked, with traffic police guarding it, not allowing anyone to enter.
Maggie stopped the car but didn't turn back. A traffic cop in a raincoat walked over: "There's a landslide ahead, you can't go any further, please turn around and leave."
Maggie rolled down the window and asked, "Have all the people inside been rescued?"
"No, the landslide has blocked the road. With this heavy rain, the mountain is too dangerous. The rescue has been stopped and will continue tomorrow when the rain stops."
"What about the tunnel? How many vehicles are likely buried inside?" Maggie's voice trembled, "I can't reach my husband, and he's not at the hospital. He might still be in there."
The traffic cop advised, "There's nothing we can do now. It's too dangerous to conduct a rescue. You should leave quickly; the landslide is very dangerous."
Saskia in the car also said, "Maggie, why don't we find a place to stay for the night and come back tomorrow?"
The traffic cop wouldn't let them in, and it wasn't safe to stay in the car.
Maggie's mental state was also very poor, and Saskia was very worried.
Maggie shook her head and then said to the traffic cop, "Can I park my car here without going in? I'll just park on that dam."
The traffic cop understood Maggie's feelings. Several groups of people had come today, all looking anxious and worried about their loved ones.
The traffic cop said, "That's not possible. Please cooperate with my work and come back tomorrow."
The traffic cop urged Maggie to leave. This was a matter of life and death, and if something happened, he couldn't bear the responsibility.
Maggie had no choice but to leave and find a hotel in the county to stay. It was close to the accident site, and she could get there at dawn.
Maggie couldn't sleep at all that night. She was very upset, worrying about Fiorello's situation.
Eleanor and the others arrived later, and after learning about the situation, they all looked worried and anxious.
The news of Fiorello, the CEO of Visionary Futures Group in Cyberland, being in an accident was still spreading. There were even rumors online that he had already died.
Among the victims, some were still missing, either buried by the landslide or washed downstream.
In a major hospital in San Diego, Fiorello had been sent back to the ward after surgery but had not yet regained consciousness. Melissa was keeping watch in the ward.
Melissa had been busy all day and hadn't had time to check the news. When Timothy saw the news, he hurried to find Melissa.
"Melissa, something's happened. The outside world is now saying that Fiorello is dead."
"Let me see." Melissa glanced at the news and said, "This is good. The bigger the commotion, the greater our favor."
Timothy said, "Melissa, should we notify the Flores family?"
"Not now. Let's wait until Fiorello wakes up and see the situation." Melissa had other plans and said, "If we call the Flores family now, the credit won't be as big. I want Fiorello to see us first when he wakes up. That will be more effective. Timothy, don't reveal anything now, don't do anything."
"Okay, I'll listen to you." Timothy said, "Melissa, why don't you go to the hotel to rest? I'll keep watch."
"I want to stay here myself. Timothy, you go back to the hotel."
Timothy had a bit of a fever and couldn't hold on any longer, so he went back to the hotel.
It was already three in the morning.
Melissa looked at the unconscious Fiorello on the hospital bed and felt a pang of compassion.
What woman could resist such an outstanding man?
Even the proud and strong Melissa, in the business world, could only consider Fiorello as a competitor and a role model.
Now, this opportunity to be alone allowed her to quietly and carefully look at Fiorello. This feeling was very strange to her.
