Chapter 396 Peach Shaped Birthmark
Maggie's limbs felt cold. She was heartbroken by Emily's malice and worried about Adalia's injuries.
When Fiorello brought Adalia to the hospital, her face was covered in blood, looking horrifying.
She knew Fiorello loved Adalia deeply. Despite their lack of blood relation, he treated her like his own daughter, buying her the best things and even decorating a pink princess room for her in their new house, complete with a small playground in the yard. It was a love that transcended biological ties.
After Emily "woke up," Arya took her to the emergency room.
When Maggie saw Emily, she was really scared of her and didn't know how to face her anymore.
"Maggie, how is Adalia?" Arya asked anxiously.
"She's still inside. We'll know when the doctor comes out," Maggie replied.
Emily sensed the tension and softly called out, "Mom."
Maggie didn't dare to respond or even look at Emily.
Just then, the doctor came out of the emergency room. "Family of Grace."
Maggie and Fiorello stood up together. Fiorello asked, "Doctor, how is my daughter?"
The doctor said, "She has two head wounds, but they're not deep and didn't hit any vital areas. We've stitched them up. Her hand is also sprained, so be careful when taking care of her."
Adalia's head injury looked scary, but it wasn't severe.
Hearing this, Maggie and Fiorello finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Adalia was moved to a regular ward. The anesthesia hadn't worn off yet, so she was still unconscious. Her hair was cut off, and her head was wrapped in bandages except for the top.
Seeing such a young child suffer, both Maggie and Fiorello felt heartbroken.
Seeing Maggie exhausted, Fiorello said, "Maggie, you and Arya should go home. I'll stay at the hospital."
"I want to wait until Adalia wakes up," Maggie said, turning to Arya. "Mom, you take Emily home first."
Arya agreed, "Alright, I'll take Emily home. I'll bring you dinner later."
Emily looked at Maggie with a guilty expression. "Mom, I'm sorry."
Maggie asked calmly, "What are you sorry for?"
Emily didn't say anything, pouting and looking like she was about to cry.
Maggie felt conflicted and asked with a glimmer of hope, "Why did you take Adalia to the station? When she was in the abandoned building, why did you say you didn't see her? Emily, give me an explanation."
Arya was shocked to hear this.
"It was Adalia who asked me to take her out to play," Emily said, blinking as tears fell. "I'm sorry, Mom. I was too scared."
Emily wanted to brush off the matter with one sentence.
If it were another child, Maggie might believe it, but not from Emily.
Maggie turned around, very disappointed. "Mom, take her home."
Arya took Emily home. On the way, she asked if Emily had taken Adalia to the station. Emily still said it was Adalia who asked her to take her out.
Arya believed Adalia wasn't that playful. She had taken care of Adalia for so long and knew her personality.
Arya didn't ask any more questions and started cooking when they got home.
By the time dinner was ready, it was already dark.
Arya instructed Emily not to run around the house and went to the hospital to deliver the food herself.
Adalia had woken up and fallen asleep again. Fiorello went to the police station to deal with Alan and Susan. When Arya arrived, only Maggie was at the hospital.
"Maggie, eat something first. Don't starve yourself. The baby in your belly needs nutrition," Arya said, placing the food on a small table.
Maggie had no appetite, but considering the baby, she nodded. "Okay."
Maggie changed her seat and said, "Mom, keep an eye on the IV bottle. Let me know when it's almost done."
"Alright," Arya said, checking the IV bottle. There was still a third left.
As Arya was about to sit down and keep watch, she glanced at Adalia's head.
Adalia's hair had been shaved off, and Arya noticed a birthmark the size of a fingernail on Adalia's head, shaped like a peach.
Arya’s heart skipped a beat. She leaned in closer to confirm, and her face pale from realization. Long ago, the daughter Maggie had given birth to had the exact same peach-shaped birthmark on her head—a detail she remembered vividly.
