Chapter 621 Family is the Most Important
Holden reviewed and confirmed the contract had no issues before signing.
But just as he was signing, Christina accidentally spilled wine on him. When he went to the restroom to clean his clothes, the contract was swapped.
The swapped contract had only minor differences from the original, which was why Holden didn't notice.
Fiorello didn't even have the heart to beat him up; it wouldn't help anyway.
"You almost got yourself thrown in jail because you felt sorry for her, Holden. I don't even know what to say to you. You were taken away for investigation, Visionary Futures Group's stock plummeted, and how much did we lose? Have you calculated that?"
"Fiorello," Holden knew he was in the wrong and kept his head down, saying nothing.
Holden recalled the events and felt confused. At the time, everything Christina said made perfect sense to him, and he felt an instant connection with her.
Moreover, Christina was very self-respecting and wouldn't sell her body for a project. This made Holden admire her and believe she had good character, so he chose to work with her.
Holden didn't know that Christina was actually Jenny, who knew him inside out and knew exactly how to manipulate him.
"Stay home for a while, don't go anywhere or do anything, and reflect on this," Fiorello said, no longer counting on Holden. If worse comes to worst, he would just treat Holden like an extra 'son,' letting him live a carefree life.
In the circles of the wealthy, there were indeed people who lived their whole lives doing nothing but eating and playing.
They had no ambition, no aspirations, just living off their family, relying on their parents when young and their children when old.
In this regard, Holden had inherited some traits from Joseph. Joseph was also terrible at business, and if it weren't for Fiorello, Visionary Futures Group wouldn't be where it is today.
Holden was like a 'child' who had made a mistake, being scolded by a parent.
Fiorello got so angry just looking at him that he didn't want to waste any more words.
Holden scratched his head, "Fiorello, I'm really sorry this time. I don't have a knack for business. I'll stay out of the company's affairs from now on to avoid causing you more trouble. By the way, I heard from Mom that Adalia was found, and Maggie is pregnant. Those are two good things, at least."
He had some self-awareness.
The only things that could ease Fiorello's mind now were these two pieces of good news.
Fiorello didn't care about the financial loss; he cared more about his family.
"You're not getting any younger. I'll talk to Mom about finding you a wife to keep you in check, so I don't have to worry about you."
"Fiorello," Holden said with a long face, "there's no rush for that."
He still wanted to have a few more years of fun and had no plans to get married.
Fiorello glanced at him, and Holden wisely kept his mouth shut.
Fiorello returned to Sunset Hills at eleven o'clock at night.
Maggie hadn't gone to bed yet and was watching over the sleeping Adalia.
Fiorello, afraid of waking Adalia, tiptoed in, took off his coat, and asked, "How's Adalia today?"
"Her mood is relatively stable; she hasn't had any outbursts," Maggie said softly. "Fiorello, let's get a teacher for Adalia."
"Okay," Fiorello said. "I'll find a teacher who knows sign language for Adalia. Maggie, everything will get better."
Maggie said wistfully, "I've been thinking a lot these past few days. There's no point in blaming the past. Adalia is back with us, and I'm already very grateful. As long as she's here, anything is possible."
During the months Adalia was missing, Maggie hadn't eaten or slept well. She often dreamed that something terrible had happened to Adalia. At that time, her only wish was for Adalia to come back alive.
Now that Adalia was back, what more could she ask for?
If she couldn't change the past, she would accept it and make it up to Adalia.
Parents are the best teachers for their children. She had to pull herself together and set an example for her child so that Adalia could have a better life in the future.
