Chapter 447 The Baby Was Gone
Isabella had just checked the route on her phone, and now she was using the car's central control display for navigation. It showed a one-kilometer traffic jam, which would take about ten minutes to get through.
Hearing the navigation announcement, Maggie felt a chill in her heart. She didn't think she could hold on for even ten minutes.
The car was stuck in traffic, and Isabella, trying not to reveal her anxiety, would cut in line whenever the car could move forward, shouting out the window, "Please make way, there's a pregnant woman with severe bleeding in the car, please make way."
This shouting had some effect, but not much. However, Isabella's actions made it clear to others that she was worried and doing her best to help Maggie.
By the time the car finally reached the hospital, forty minutes had passed, and Maggie had already lost consciousness and fallen into a coma.
Arya slumped outside the emergency room after sending Maggie in, unable to return to her senses. Her daughter was her life.
Isabella comforted her, "Auntie, don't worry, everything will be fine."
These words offered no comfort at all. Maggie was in such a state; it was impossible for everything to be fine.
Arya didn't speak. With trembling hands, she called Fiorello. As soon as she started speaking, her voice choked up, "Fiorello, something happened to Maggie, she's having severe bleeding."
This call left Fiorello stunned.
Hearing about Maggie's severe bleeding, Fiorello stood frozen for a full five seconds, his face changing instantly. He then shouted in a trembling voice, "William, book a flight, we need to return to Cyberland immediately."
Isabella stayed at the hospital the whole time. Maggie had been in the emergency room for over ten minutes when a doctor came out with a surgical risk consent form for Arya to sign.
Arya asked worriedly, "How is my daughter?"
"The pregnant woman's condition is very dangerous. She was brought in too late, and the fetus has no heartbeat. We need to perform an induced labor surgery immediately."
Hearing that the fetus had no heartbeat, Isabella felt a sense of relief; the baby was gone.
Arya almost couldn't stand. She signed the form with trembling hands, pleading with the doctor to save Maggie.
During the induced labor surgery, Maggie kept bleeding uncontrollably. The doctor asked Arya to sign another consent form for a hysterectomy to save Maggie's life.
The doctor's words hit Arya like a ton of bricks, tears streaming down her face. She waved her hands frantically, "No, doctor, you gotta save my daughter's uterus, she's still so young."
Isabella chimed in, trying to sound sincere, "Doctor, please, find a way to save my cousin's uterus. She can't lose it."
The doctor sighed, "The bleeding won't stop, and we have no other options. If necessary, we have to proceed."
"Doctor, you must save my daughter-in-law, save her uterus. Use the best medicine, you must save it." Eleanor and Joseph burst in, having rushed over as soon as they heard about Maggie.
Seeing Eleanor, Arya felt a bit of relief. "Eleanor, you're here. Maggie's bleeding badly, the baby couldn't be saved. Maggie has let your family down, we couldn't save the baby."
Eleanor said, "Right now, saving Maggie is the most important thing."
Joseph nodded, "Yeah, saving Maggie is what matters."
In the emergency room, Maggie had a brief moment of consciousness. In her daze, she heard the doctor say the fetal heartbeat was gone.
No fetal heartbeat meant the baby was gone.
She couldn't save the baby.
That was her and Fiorello's baby, and she couldn't protect it.
Maggie's heart shattered along with the baby's heartbeat.
She drifted into a long, long dream, seeing a cute baby sitting in front of her, reaching out with tiny hands, calling, "Mommy, Mommy."
Maggie cried tears of joy, reaching out to hold the baby and kiss its face. But in the next second, the baby vanished from her arms.
Maggie panicked, searching everywhere. "Baby, baby, where did you go? Come back to Mommy, please?"
She couldn't find the baby. She was frantic, surrounded by white fog, unable to see anything. She vaguely heard someone crying softly, someone seemed to be calling her name.
Maggie didn't want to respond to the voice; she just wanted to find her baby.
Suddenly, the white fog cleared, and everything went dark.
The baby's cries grew fainter, and Maggie chased the sound, calling, "Baby, baby."
Maggie struggled to wake up from the dream, opening her eyes to see a white ceiling and the strong smell of disinfectant.
She knew she was in a hospital.
Memories before she lost consciousness came flooding back, and Maggie frantically touched her belly. The once high, rounded belly was now flat. At that moment, Maggie couldn't hold back anymore and burst into tears.
