Chapter 188 Awakening
Adalia, holding a small backpack, fell asleep against the wall.
The floor was so cold that Adalia was wearing thin clothes and a pair of sandals on her feet.
"Adalia."
Fiorello squatted down and gently shook Adalia.
Adalia woke up and saw Fiorello. Adalia rubbed her eyes and said, "Uncle Fiorello."
"Why are you sleeping here?" Fiorello took off his coat and draped it over Adalia.
"Uncle Fiorello, I had a dream. I dreamt that Mrs. Flores was sick. I want to find her, but I can't. Can you take me to find Mrs. Flores?"
Upon hearing this, Fiorello was very surprised.
Adalia's dream was so strange. Did he not know that something had happened to Maggie?
"Uncle Fiorello." Adalia tugged at Fiorello's arm, her voice tender, and asked, "Can you take me to find Mrs. Flores?"
Thinking that Maggie always liked Adalia and that maybe Adalia could really wake up Maggie, Fiorello said, "Alright, I'll take you."
Fiorello held Adalia's hand and walked towards the entrance of the community.
Holden had been waiting in the car. Seeing Fiorello bringing a child along, he asked, "Fiorello, why are you bringing a girl?"
"Maggie has always liked her. Adalia wants to see Maggie." Fiorello lifted Adalia into the car.
On the way to the hospital, Fiorello casually asked Adalia how she was doing in kindergarten.
Adalia happily said, "Kindergarten is fun. The teachers are very nice, and the classmates are very friendly."
Fiorello had already spoken to the kindergarten principal about taking special care of Adalia.
Adalia started school later than her peers, unlike those children who started early education at the age of two or three. She had to learn many things slowly to adapt.
In order to persuade the Barlow couple to send Adalia to school, Fiorello had the principal promise Susan that as long as Adalia attended school without absence, they would receive a bonus of fifty thousand dollars per semester.
With so much money at stake, Susan was willing to send Adalia to school.
While other children cost money to go to school, Adalia was earning money by going to school, which was considered a contribution to the family. Susan was naturally happy.
"As long as you're happy." Fiorello patted Adalia's head, feeling warm inside as he watched Adalia's happiness, a smile forming on his lips.
Holden, who was driving, was shocked to see Fiorello smile for the first time since Maggie's accident.
This child really had some magic.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital.
Fiorello led Adalia into the ward to see Maggie. Arya was also in the ward. Arya had come to the hospital late last night and stayed with Eleanor all night.
Both were old, and they looked a bit tired because they hadn't rested properly for the night.
Eleanor yawned, and Fiorello said to Holden, "Take Arya and Eleanor back to rest."
Arya and Eleanor didn't say much either. They went back to rest so they could take care of Maggie with energy.
After the others left, only Fiorello and Adalia remained in the ward.
Adalia looked at Maggie, who was unconscious on the bed, feeling sad for some reason, tears streaming down her face.
Adalia walked to the bedside, holding Maggie's hand. "Mrs. Flores, I'm Adalia. I had a dream that you were sick. Uncle Fiorello brought me to see you. Mrs. Flores, please recover soon. I'm very happy at kindergarten. The teacher praised me yesterday..."
Adalia kept holding Maggie's hand, telling her all the interesting things that happened at school.
Fiorello had never seen Adalia talk so much before and was somewhat surprised.
Adalia had strong logical thinking and spoke very clearly.
After saying a lot, and seeing no response from Maggie, she asked in confusion, "Uncle Fiorello, why hasn't Mrs. Flores woken up yet?"
"Maggie is just tired and resting. She will wake up." Fiorello comforted Adalia gently, saying, "Did Maggie promise you to attend the kindergarten activities? She won't break her promise."
"Yes, Auntie is very trustworthy and she won't deceive me."
Adalia gently touched Maggie's face with her small hand and earnestly said, "Mrs. Flores, please wake up soon. Next time I get a small gift as a reward from the kindergarten teacher, I'll give it to you, okay?"
"Adalia, let Maggie rest a little longer. I'll take you to have breakfast."
Just as he finished speaking, Fiorello happened to see Maggie's fingers move.
Fiorello was overjoyed, thinking it was an illusion until Maggie's hand moved again. He was pleasantly surprised and held Maggie's hand, saying, "Maggie, did you hear us talking? Maggie, please wake up, okay?"
