Chapter 728 Collapse, Rescue, Disappearance
Fiorello was severely injured; he was rescued from the tunnel.
Many who came out of the tunnel were already corpses; very few survived, and those who did were either dead or seriously injured.
Fiorello was rushing to Flames Village in the morning and happened to encounter the mudslide. By the time they noticed something was wrong, it was too late to evacuate.
Their car had already entered the tunnel.
William and Brian were sent to the hospital by volunteers from the rescue team.
The rescue work was still ongoing.
Melissa urged Timothy to drive and take Fiorello to the hospital: "Don't go to the county hospital, go straight to the big hospital in the city."
Melissa thought that the big hospital had better conditions, and if Fiorello woke up and saw how much effort she had put in, he would be moved.
Timothy worriedly said, "Melissa, the big hospital is too far. It will take at least two hours to get there. Can Fiorello hold on with such severe injuries?"
"Just drive faster. The big hospital has a better environment. Trust me." Melissa checked Fiorello's breathing; he was still alive but very cold. She turned on the car heater.
Timothy followed Melissa's instructions and drove to the big hospital in the city.
Meanwhile.
Another mudslide occurred shortly after Melissa left. The accident was already on the news.
Over in Cyberland.
Maggie was feeling anxious and irritable, with a constant sense of unease.
She had a premonition that something was going to happen and called Fiorello, but couldn't get through.
Fiorello had called her back last night, and Maggie knew he was going to Flames Village early this morning to meet Charles from Sunrise Industries.
It was almost dark, and Fiorello still hadn't finished his work.
Maggie called again, but no one answered. She then called Brian and William, but still, no one answered.
Maggie panicked. Could something have happened?
"Maggie, are Katie and Nate asleep?" Eleanor arrived, bringing things for the babies.
"Mom," Maggie said, "Katie and Nate just fell asleep. They were fussy last night and cried all night."
Before she finished speaking, the babies' loud cries came from upstairs again.
Eleanor put down her things and hurried upstairs: "It must be Adalia causing trouble again."
In Eleanor's eyes, Katie and Nate crying like this must mean Adalia had hurt the babies again.
Eleanor's tone carried a hint of blame.
Without understanding the situation, Eleanor had already blamed Adalia.
Maggie felt uncomfortable hearing this.
Eleanor was somewhat biased after all.
Seeing that Adalia wasn't in the nursery, Maggie subconsciously relaxed. With Adalia not there, Eleanor couldn't blame her.
Eleanor took Nate from the nanny's arms and scolded, "You can't even soothe a baby? Crying like this, is he hungry, wet, or uncomfortable?"
The nanny explained, "They ate an hour ago, so they shouldn't be hungry. They haven't wet themselves either. They just suddenly started crying, maybe from a nightmare or a fright."
Maggie picked up Katie and said, "Mom, it's normal for babies to cry. Let me soothe them."
Maggie was also inexplicably irritable.
Eleanor wanted to say more, but Saskia hurriedly ran up: "Mrs. Flores, something's wrong. Mr. Flores is in trouble."
Hearing this, both Maggie and Eleanor's expressions changed.
Maggie's heart sank, and she asked, "What happened?"
Saskia said, "A mudslide occurred in Flames Village, causing the tunnel to collapse, burying dozens of cars. Over thirty people have died, and it's already on the news. William and Brian were injured and sent to the hospital. Brian woke up and called me. Mr. Flores is not in the hospital."
Only the living injured were sent to the hospital; the dead were taken away by their families.
If Fiorello wasn't in the hospital, it could mean the worst.
Upon hearing this, Maggie felt dizzy and almost couldn't stand.
She handed the baby to the nanny and quickly went to check the news.
Eleanor, also shocked, forgot about the crying babies and followed to confirm Fiorello's situation.
Turning on the TV, the news was flooded with reports about the Flames Village collapse.
Heavy rain in Flames Village made the rescue even more difficult. The sight of the bodies being carried out was chilling and terrifying.
In the rain, the cries of the grieving families and the sight of cold, lifeless bodies were heart-wrenching.
"Fiorello," Eleanor was devastated and fainted on the spot.
