Chapter 31 Did She Do it to Seduce Him?

Maggie had never been more embarrassed in her life than she was at that moment.

She saw Fiorello's gaze fall upon her black lace underwear, and she swiftly picked them up to hide behind her back.

Maggie kept her head low, her face turning beet red.

Fiorello found Maggie's reaction amusing. He was about to speak but inadvertently caught a glimpse of her chest...

Only then did he notice that she wasn't wearing anything underneath.

Fiorello also felt awkward and turned to the side, explaining, "I was just making something to eat."

"Okay, I'm going to wash it again. It got dirty."

Maggie, her head still lowered, kept the underwear hidden behind her and quickly retreated to her bedroom.

Fiorello's smile deepened, finding her shyness endearing.

Back in her room, Maggie washed the underwear again. This time, she didn't dare to hang them on the patio but instead used a hanger by the window.

After taking care of that, she remembered she still wasn't wearing underwear. Thinking of Fiorello's actions earlier, she realized what he might think and felt a wave of embarrassment and annoyance.

He couldn't possibly think she was trying to seduce him, right?

Maggie felt like she wanted to crawl into a hole and hide.

Just last night, she had accidentally pulled him down with her, and they both ended up falling together onto the sofa, lips meeting in an unplanned kiss, and now her underwear incident...

Maggie patted her hot cheeks when suddenly, Fiorello knocked on her door from outside.

"Maggie, I made some pasta. Would you like to join me?"

She had only had a piece of durian cake that evening and was feeling a bit hungry.

"I'll be right there," Maggie called out in response.

She quickly changed into a more conservative set of pajamas before heading out.

Fiorello had prepared two bowls of pasta, the aroma wafting through the air.

"Mmm, that smells amazing." Maggie sat down, unable to resist picking up her fork. "You really can cook, can't you?"

This was the first time he had shown off his cooking skills since they started living together.

"Simple stuff, really."

Just as Fiorello finished speaking, the house suddenly plunged into darkness.

Maggie, already nearsighted, could hardly see anything at all without power, much like being blind.

"What's going on?" Maggie asked.

Fiorello turned on the flashlight on his phone and said with a serious tone, "I'll go check it out. You stay seated and don't move."

Obediently, Maggie stayed put while Fiorello stepped into the hallway to investigate. There were lights on in the hallway, so a power outage was unlikely.

He came back and said, "We might be behind on the bills."

Holden had rushed the purchase of the house, and Fiorello had not yet had the time to go over the remaining balance for utilities or even figure out how to pay them.

Maggie, who had experienced power outages before, knew the drill and asked, "Where's the electric card for the house?"

That question stumped Fiorello; he didn't know where the card was.

As the CEO of Visionary Futures Group, he never had to worry about such mundane matters.

His mind racing, Fiorello responded, "I can't seem to recall where it is right now."

"The landlord probably has the account linked to the electric meter and could make a payment for us. We can do it through a smartphone," Maggie suggested, sharing her previous experience. "You should call the landlord and ask."

Calling the landlord would mean revealing his identity as the actual owner, exposing the truth.

With a serious demeanor, Fiorello said, "It's pretty late to be bothering people now, and we have candles. Let's just light a candle."

Maggie, assuming Fiorello was simply too shy to inconvenience the landlord, didn't think much more of it.

Fiorello found some candles in a drawer, lit one, and placed it in the center of the dining table. The warm orange light filled the room, casting a cozy glow as they sat facing each other.

"Maggie." Fiorello suddenly called her name.

Maggie responded, "Yes?"

"I have a gift for you," Fiorello said as he handed her a jewelry box from the drawer.

Maggie was curious, "What is this? What's the occasion? Why are you giving me a present out of the blue?"
