Chapter 322 All in Vain
Mark now wanted a divorce, and Ashley had already voiced it, so he naturally went along with it.
Mark's words left everyone in the hospital room stunned.
Richard and Megan exchanged glances, while Ashley was both shocked, heartbroken, and furious.
Melissa and Timothy were both taken aback.
Timothy quickly said, "Dad, calm down. It's not that serious. You and Mom are already at this age. Don't get a divorce."
"We're talking. You keep quiet." Mark pointed at Timothy. To him, Timothy was just a child.
How could a child meddle in his parents' affairs?
Mark was in full force, refuting anyone who spoke up.
"I won't allow you to yell at our son. I dare you to yell at him again." Ashley was displeased and defended her son, shouting at Mark, "You want a divorce? I'm not afraid of you. Let's go right now. I'm telling you, you have to leave with nothing. Don't even think about taking a penny. The Jackson family assets belong to me and the children."
"You have no right to make me leave with nothing." Mark raised his voice. "You must think the Jackson family relies on the White family, but the Jackson family's success today is all due to my efforts. If we divorce, I'll give you half of the assets, and that's already generous enough. The son stays with me, the daughter with you. Let's go. We'll divorce right now."
Saying this, Mark went to grab Ashley.
He was getting real.
When a woman talked about divorce, it was often just a bluff to make the man compromise. It was a test and a threat.

Hearing that Mark wanted the son and not her, Melissa felt a pang of sadness and desolation.

Richard, seeing things going awry, heavily tapped the floor with his cane and said in a loud voice, "Mark, some things, once done, can't be undone. You want a divorce. It's not that easy. Do you think the White family has no power?"
Megan, no longer as aggressive as before, said, "Mark, you're insisting on a divorce just for that woman. That woman can't bring anything to the Jackson family. Think carefully about what the White family can bring to the Jackson family."
Her words were full of threats and warnings.
Faced with Richard's and Megan's threats, Mark recalled events from twenty years ago and said with a grim face, "It was you who forced me to marry Ashley back then. If it weren't for you, I would have married Arya long ago. I won't waste any more time. I want to marry Arya and rekindle our old flame."
Such blatant words shocked everyone.
Everyone thought Mark was crazy. To divorce for the sake of Arya, who had no wealth or status, was simply insane.
Richard and Megan were furious and said to Ashley, "Ashley, if he wants a divorce, let him. I want to see how capable the Jackson family is."
Timothy couldn't help but try to persuade, "Dad, Mom, stop arguing. I don't agree with you getting a divorce."
As Mark insisted on a divorce, Ashley was already in tears. "Mark, you've been planning this for a long time. It's my fault for being too stupid to see through your scheme. You want to marry that bitch, fine, then let's divorce. But I must take eighty percent of the company assets. The son stays with me, the daughter with you."
Ashley's words were undoubtedly a stab in Melissa's heart. Neither parent wanted her.
Timothy couldn't stand it anymore and shouted, "If you want to divorce and argue, do it outside. Your words are hurting Melissa."
Timothy's words brought a bit of sanity back to Mark and Ashley. Ashley glanced at Melissa, feeling somewhat guilty.
Melissa, pale and silent, looked pitiful, with tears in her eyes. Her tearful appearance made her even more heart-wrenching.
Richard and Megan, who were also fed up with the chaotic scene, grabbed Ashley and said, "Let's go home first. If Mark wants a divorce, let him file a lawsuit."
