Chapter 549 The Person Behind the Scenes Appears
Ivan took off his jacket, revealing a three-inch wound on his arm.
Ivan just wrapped it haphazardly with some torn cloth, and the blood was still flowing.
Ivan took out a first aid kit from the room and began treating the wound. The anesthetic was gone, so he disinfected the wound and started stitching.
The first stitch made him break out in a cold sweat from the pain.
He was indeed a tough person.
Without any anesthetic, he stitched himself up, biting down on a piece of cloth. His whole body trembled with pain with each stitch, each thread feeling like torture, as if he were rolling through a mountain of knives and a pot of boiling oil.
But no matter how much it hurt, Ivan didn't make a sound. By the time he finished the last stitch, he was drenched in sweat, his face pale, and his lips white, looking particularly frightening.
Ivan weakly lay on the sofa to rest for a while when his phone suddenly rang.
The phone rang for a long time before Ivan regained enough consciousness to answer it.
On the other end was Kyle Rivera's cold voice: "Ivan, what's going on? Why didn't you answer the phone?"
"Just now."
Ivan propped himself up to explain, but Kyle interrupted him coldly: "Did you finish the task I assigned you?"
"No." Ivan glanced at the wound on his arm and said, "Fiorello came to London. I didn't have a chance to act. I just fought with Fiorello's subordinate, Brian."
Ivan didn't even get a chance to mention his injury before he was met with a scolding.
"Useless, you can't even handle a small task." Kyle harshly reprimanded over the phone, "Last time, I told you to take Jenny, and you failed. Now I told you to kidnap a woman, and you failed again. What can you do?"
Ivan endured it and called out, "Kyle."
Kyle coldly reminded him, "Have you forgotten your identity?"
"Yes." Ivan respectfully replied, "Kyle."
"Since Fiorello is here, keep an eye on the woman for a while longer. Don't expose yourself."
"Understood."
The call ended, and Ivan could no longer hold on, weakly collapsing onto the sofa.
In another room.
Maggie only found out that Fiorello had arrived after she returned to the hotel. She was particularly surprised, "You came quietly without saying a word."
Before Maggie returned, Arya had already tactfully booked a room next door.
"I was worried you might be bullied here." Fiorello saw her holding sanitary pads and asked, "Does your stomach hurt?"
"Not yet." Maggie's periods were always torturous, sometimes making her feel nauseous and want to vomit, breaking out in a cold sweat.
"You can't be careless. Sit down and rest. I'll get you some hot water to soak your feet." Fiorello said, and then ordered some brown sugar ginger tea on a delivery app.
In the past, when Maggie had her period, Fiorello would also prepare foot baths for her. When her feet swelled during pregnancy, he would help massage and soak them too.
At that time, Maggie felt like the happiest woman in the world.
Fiorello brought a basin of hot water and had Maggie sit on the sofa to soak her feet.
Maggie asked, "Now that you're in London, what about Adalia?"
"I asked Holden to help with the pick-up and drop-off. He can handle such a small task." Fiorello asked, "Did you gain anything from visiting the Jackson family today?"
"My dad did have a stroke and can't speak. Ashley is also unwilling to let him go, so I used the share transfer agreement as a condition—one hand for the person, one hand for the agreement."
As Maggie spoke, Fiorello brought her a cup of warm water. His gentleness and thoughtfulness, like a silent spring rain, made her feel warm inside.
Fiorello was surprised, "You gave up the inheritance rights to the Jackson Group?"
"I couldn't handle it even if I kept it." Maggie shrugged, "Preserve resources for future needs. First, get my dad out and treat him, and find out what caused his stroke."
Fiorello looked at Maggie with eyes full of admiration and pride, making her a bit embarrassed.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"My wife is wise, knows when to advance and retreat, is smart, and understands how to make choices. I'm very proud."
Maggie laughed, "Am I really as good as you say? Don't you think I'm just being timid?"
"Arrogance, blindness, and greed are the real bottomless pits. Taking over the Jackson Group might not necessarily be a good thing."
