Chapter 66 Newcomer, Being Bullied
The private investigator's voice, vague and distant, echoed over the phone, "I've found half of it."
Samwise, perplexed by the ambiguous response, urged, "Come to the hospital immediately and bring everything you've found." Unable to decipher the investigator's cryptic message over the phone, Samwise resolved to meet him in person.
Roughly thirty minutes later, a man donning a baseball cap and clutching a briefcase entered the room. Samwise had previously requested Sarah and Jane to vacate the hospital room, leaving him alone with the investigator.
"Where are the findings?" Samwise inquired, his tone laced with impatience.
The private investigator retrieved a stack of documents from his briefcase, "Everything I found is here. I had to resort to some unconventional methods to obtain this information. Take a look. This woman, Maggie, gave birth to a child and has been battling depression for quite some time."
Upon hearing this, Samwise eagerly skimmed through the documents, which detailed information about the hospital where Maggie had given birth and the psychiatrist who had been treating her depression.
"What a damn whore," Samwise spat out in anger. According to the timeline in the documents, Maggie had become involved with other men and fallen pregnant shortly after he had left the country.
He had been in a relationship with Maggie for a year, a relationship that had been marked by innocence and restraint. Despite Samwise's repeated insinuations about spending the night together, Maggie had always refused, expressing her desire to wait until their wedding night.
"Acting pure in front of me and then sleeping with other men behind my back. Despicable woman," Samwise cursed, his true nature laid bare. He was in a desperate state, no longer needing to maintain the facade of refinement he had once upheld.
As Samwise finished reading the documents, he learned that Maggie had given birth to a child at the age of twenty and subsequently battled depression for about a year. She had also dropped out of school following her pregnancy.
"Where is that filthy child? What about the information on that wild man? Why isn't there anything?" Samwise demanded, his voice rising in frustration.
"I could only find this much," the investigator replied, his tone apologetic.
Samwise clutched the documents tightly, his eyes filled with a malicious glint. "This is enough."
It was enough to ruin Maggie's life.
A sinister smirk spread across Samwise's face. "I want to see Fiorello's reaction when he finds out he married a whore. His wife has given birth to a child and is a promiscuous woman. Such a woman will likely become a lifelong stain for Fiorello."
How could a woman of such character be part of the noble Flores family?
Since Maggie had shown him no kindness, he saw no reason to show her any.
Samwise was confident that Fiorello was oblivious to Maggie's past; this information would be his trump card.
With this thought, Samwise no longer feared Fiorello. The higher the status, the more crucial the reputation. Once Maggie's scandal was exposed, Fiorello would be humiliated.
Samwise reflected on Maggie's coldness and her haste to distance herself from him. Now he understood the reason: she had ascended to the position of the President of the powerful Visionary Futures Group and was eager to become Mrs. Flores.
At this moment, Maggie was blissfully unaware of the revenge Samwise was plotting against her.
She and Emily reported to Chief Designer Selena, both of them slightly excited to meet their idol.
Selena was not pleased when the company assigned a high school graduate as Maggie's assistant.
However, having a deep understanding of the workplace dynamics, Selena concealed her displeasure and assigned Maggie some menial tasks.
Selena was certain that Maggie would not survive the three-month probation period, so she didn't waste her energy on dealing with her.
On her first day at the new company, Maggie didn't find it inappropriate to perform odd jobs and assist wherever she could. Whether it was a small or large company, newcomers were bound to face some hardship.
The experienced employees in the design department had all started from the bottom.
Maggie remembered Arya's teachings – setbacks are blessings. With her limited education and lack of background, she knew she had to be humble and eager to learn.
Emily, on the other hand, was faring much better. She had prepared a gift for Selena and bought Starbucks coffee for her colleagues in the design department, immediately earning their favor. She was doing much better than Maggie and didn't have to do menial tasks. She sat at her own desk and talked with everyone about luxury brands.Emily had strong business skills and had performed well abroad. She had no intention of competing with her predecessors. Her goal was to secure the position of Visionary Futures Group's boss's wife, so it was necessary for her to win everyone over.
Maggie, however, was in a different boat. With her striking beauty and enviable figure, she was bound to incite jealousy among the women. Any minor tasks that needed assistance were handed over to Maggie.
For instance, "Maggie, pour me a glass of water."
"Hey, you, the newcomer, sweep this floor."
"We're out of ink. Newcomer, go downstairs and buy some."
"Maggie, print out this document and deliver it to my desk."
Maggie found herself swamped with tasks, overwhelmed and overworked.
