Chapter 321 Want a Divorce
Mark was now walking briskly, eager to announce to the world that he was the father-in-law of the owner of Visionary Futures Group.
He instructed the driver to head straight to the hotel. Maggie had never caused him any trouble and now had given him such a pleasant surprise. She truly was his good daughter.
Shortly after the car had started, Mark received a call from his son, Timothy. "Dad, Melissa is critically ill. You need to come to the hospital right away."
Upon hearing this news, Mark had no choice but to set aside the matter of appeasing Arya. Melissa was his daughter, and now that she was in danger, he couldn't ignore it.
"Derek, to the hospital, quickly," Mark instructed the driver.
Over half an hour later, Mark hurriedly arrived at the hospital, only to find Melissa sitting comfortably in the ward. Timothy was peeling fruit for her while Ashley sat on the sofa with a sullen face, her eyes red from crying.
Even Ashley's parents, Richard White and Megan White were there, waiting for him.
Mark instantly realized that this was a ploy to get him there and hold him accountable.
He glared at Timothy and felt mad at the latter for deceiving him.
Timothy, feeling guilty, avoided his gaze.
Sensing the tension, Melissa remained silent and weakly leaned against the headboard.
As soon as Mark appeared, Megan spoke up, "Mark, I still remember the vows you made when you married my daughter. You've gone too far. Ashley has been with you for over twenty years and has given you two children. Now, you dare to hit her for the sake of another woman. You must give an explanation today."
Richard wore a stern expression, too, leaning on his cane and assuming the stance of a father-in-law. "As a man, it's wrong to hit your own wife. Don't forget, the Jackson family owes its current success to the help of the White family."
Reprimanded by Megan and Richard, Mark was also displeased. He glanced at Ashley and said, "Isn't it enough that you made a scene at the mall? Now you want to continue at the hospital, in front of the children and our parents. Ashley, you're over fifty years old. You should act more maturely and use your brain."
As a junior, Mark couldn't confront Richard and Megan directly, so he went at Ashley instead.
Hearing this, Ashley became even angrier. She slapped the sofa madly and stood up, shouting, "Mark, you hit me and still refuse to admit your mistake. You are having an affair with that tramp Arya. You've bought her jewelry worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and even furniture. Are you planning to cheat on me?"
"It's perfectly normal for me to buy her things. It's my money, and I can spend it however I want," Mark retorted confidently. In the past, he would have quickly admitted his mistake.
Mark and Ashley had been married for many years and had certainly had their share of arguments. Whenever Ashley went back to her parents' home, seeking support from them, they would pressure him in business matters, and he would have no choice but to admit his fault.
But now, Mark refused to admit his mistake. He was now the father-in-law of the owner of Visionary Futures Group and feared nothing.
Mark's attitude left Richard and Megan momentarily stunned. Mark would never have behaved this way before.
Seeing their parents argue, Melissa and Timothy dared not speak.
Ashley flew into a rage and yelled, "Mark, you've gone mad. Think carefully. If you dare to contact Arya again, I'll divorce you."
Richard and Megan also said, "Mark, all couples argue. Just admit your mistake and promise Ashley that you'll cut ties with the other woman. Melissa and Timothy are both watching. Ashley, don't talk about divorce so easily. You're married for years. If Mark is willing to apologize, just let it go."
They were giving Mark a way out, offering him some dignity. They weren't here to encourage a divorce but to get Mark to admit his mistake so the matter could be resolved.
But this time, Mark said, "Then let's divorce. Let's go now while the Marriage Registry Office is still open. Let's go right now."
