Chapter 719 The Intention Behind Saving Someone
Maggie felt a sense of familiarity, but for a moment, she couldn't recall where she had seen him before.
Saskia said, "His name is Ivan, Kyle's brother. He's been helping Kyle with his work. He had a confrontation with Brian in Sunshine Bay City and got injured. Last time, during the chase for Jenny, Ivan was seriously injured and Kyle had to rescue him."
"Sunshine Bay City?" Maggie suddenly remembered. "It's him! He got injured in Sunshine Bay City because of Brian?"
Maggie was very surprised. At that time, they were staying in the same hotel, and she had seen the blood on his arm.
Ivan hadn't treated his wound, and the next time she saw him, he was so weak he almost collapsed.
Maggie carefully recalled the events of that day and realized that after she had a brief conversation with Brian, Ivan was nowhere to be found.
Saskia asked, "Maggie, do you know him?"
"Yes, we've met a couple of times."
Saskia said, "That makes sense then. I was disguised as you at the time, and Ivan might not have recognized me. He probably thought I was you and took the knife for me."
"But I'm not that close to him. He's with Jenny's group. He shouldn't have taken the knife for me," Maggie doubted, unable to understand Ivan's intentions.
Saskia said, "That seems to be the case. But at the time, I saw a look of nervousness in Ivan's eyes. He used his whole body to block Jenny's knife, and blood gushed out immediately. Later, he fought with Brian again, and his injuries worsened. I'm afraid his chances of survival are slim."
Maggie remembered their brief encounter in the elevator and couldn't understand why Ivan would save her.
Maggie also knew about Jenny's illness. Regardless of how the law dealt with her, she didn't have much time left to live.
After Fiorello went on a business trip, Maggie spent her days with the three children.
Eleanor would come to Sunset Hills every day to see the baby but wouldn't stay long. This way, everyone felt more at ease, and Adalia had no psychological pressure interacting with her siblings.
Fiorello went to San Diego. After finishing his work each day, he would video call Maggie to check on his wife and kids.
Arya couldn't sit still at home and went out to find a job. With a nanny and a baby nurse at home, Arya didn't have much to do.
Since Arya saw how Eleanor treated Adalia and how she despised the gifts Arya gave to the children, she deeply understood the differences between the two families.
She didn't want to rely on Maggie and Fiorello. As long as she could move and had her limbs, she didn't want to sit idle at home.
Spending money she earned herself felt more secure.
Arya went out to work without telling Maggie. She lied to Maggie every day, saying she was going dancing or meeting old friends, but in reality, she was working as a cleaner at a hotel.
She only needed to work four hours a day, changing the bed linens after guests checked out.
Arya had always felt quite inferior and lived cautiously, never truly enjoying a few days of her life.
Raising her daughter alone, only she knew the hardships involved.
Mark had gone back but would occasionally call Arya to stay in touch.
Recently, Mark had become bolder because Melissa was not at home.
Melissa had gone to San Diego a couple of days ago to inspect a factory, and Timothy had gone with her.
In this household, the only person Mark feared was Melissa. With Melissa gone, he became arrogant again.
He often stayed out until the early hours, and Ashley would get angry seeing him come back drunk. "Mark, do you think this house is a hotel? Coming and going as you please. Keep drinking, and when you get sick and end up in bed, let's see who takes care of you."
Mark ignored Ashley and lay on the couch with his eyes closed.
"Mark, answer me. Do you not even want to talk to me now?" Ashley was furious. "Are you thinking about that bitch Arya?"
Mark, feeling annoyed, sat up straight and shouted, "You're always arguing. If you're having menopause, go see a doctor. Why argue with me? We can't even talk for two minutes without fighting. What's there to say?"
