Chapter 669 A Graceful Turn

Francis was explaining, and Dulce, with red eyes, just stared at him.

Hearing him admit it himself, that it was true, Dulce held back her tears. She wouldn't cry in front of Francis.

This was her dignity.

"When you say you're sorry, you mean you're going to take responsibility for her, right?" Dulce forced a smile and said, "You're a cop, responsible and dependable. Of course, you'll take care of her. Edward saved you, and to repay him, you look after Wendy and her daughter, supporting them. You guys are more like a family. They can't do without you. I understand."

"Dulce." Francis's throat was dry, as if something was stuck. He held Dulce's shoulders, and after a thousand words, it all came down to one, "I'm sorry."

Dulce pretended to be indifferent, waved her hand, and smiled, "You didn't do anything to me. At worst, I'll just find another boyfriend. I'm so pretty, why would I worry about not finding one? Men are everywhere."

Dulce still chose to let Francis go. If Francis didn't take responsibility for Wendy, he would never be at peace, and there would always be a knot in their hearts.

Dulce's magnanimity made Francis feel even more ashamed. He hugged Dulce tightly, saying nothing, just holding her. Maybe this was the last time he would ever hold her.

Dulce lay on his shoulder, staring at the night sky with red eyes.

"Alright, Francis, goodbye. I'm going home." Dulce pulled away from Francis's embrace, smiled nonchalantly, patted her butt, and walked to the roadside to hail a cab.

Dulce took a taxi back, and Francis followed in his car, escorting her. All he could do was escort her home, watch her enter the apartment, and see the light in her floor turn on before he left.

Dulce knew Francis was following her all the way, and his actions made her feel even worse.

Back home, Dulce sat on the couch. This relationship had ended just as it began. It was the shortest, yet the most painful.

Her previous boyfriends had all betrayed and lied to her. This time, Francis had physically cheated, which was also a betrayal.

Dulce irritably scratched her head. Why was she so unlucky? Every boyfriend either deceived her or cheated?

Her phone chimed with a message from Maggie: [Dulce, are you home? Are you okay?]

It was already midnight, and Maggie was worried, so she sent a message to check on her.

Dulce replied: [I'm fine, I'm home. Maggie, I'm going to sleep now. We'll talk tomorrow.]

Maggie didn't disturb Dulce further and didn't reply.

Dulce lay in bed, pulled the covers over herself, and prepared to sleep. Everything else could wait until she woke up.

A drunk Dulce slept until noon the next day.

She opened her eyes and heard noises in the living room. Her first reaction was, could it be Francis?

Dulce pulled off the covers and went out. Maggie was in the living room working on a design. Seeing Dulce awake, she said, "You're up. When I came, you were still sleeping, so I didn't wake you. I ordered food; it should be here soon."

"Maggie." Dulce walked over, hugged Maggie's arm, and said coquettishly, "You're the best. You're pregnant and working so hard. I feel so guilty."

"Since you know you're wrong, eat more later." Maggie laughed, "You reek of alcohol. Go take a shower, clean yourself up, and then tell me what happened."

"Yes."

Dulce went to shower and changed her clothes. The food arrived.

Maggie had ordered oatmeal.

Dulce ate a big bowl, filling her stomach, and then said, "I broke up with Francis."

Maggie, unfazed by the revelation, said, "Tell me what happened. This was the shortest relationship yet."

Dulce took a deep breath and said, "He slept with Wendy."
